Friends of Jamal Khashoggi, the dissident Saudi journalist killed in disputed circumstances in his country's consulate in Istanbul, have demanded that authorities in Riyadh produce his remains.After nearly three weeks in which it denied anything untoward had happened on in its diplomatic premises in Turkey, Saudi Arabia admitted Khashoggi had died but claimed it was the accidental result of a brawl.Turkish officials privately believe he was dismembered, and Saudi authorities have failed to produce his body or say where they where they believe it to be. All they would admit was that officials engaged in a cover-up.Speaking to reporters outside Saudi Arabia's Istanbul consulate Saturday, Turan Kislakci, the head of the Turkish Arab Media Association and a friend of Khashoggi, called on Saudi Arabia to hand over the journalist's body. Hank Azaria says his "eyes have been opened" and he's willing to "step aside" from playing his controversial "Simpsons" character.The actor appeared on Tuesday's episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and talked about the fallout surrounding the character he voices, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.Comedian Hari Kondabolu's documentary "The Problem with Apu" debuted last November and looked at the character as a negative, stereotypical representation of South Asians.Nahasapeemapetilon, a Indian-American character with a thick accent, operates the Kwik-E-Mart convenience store in the fictional town of Springfield. The show recently aired a response to complaints about him.Writers had the character of Lisa Simpson respond to a question from her mother Marge by saying, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?" before Lisa glanced at a framed photograph of Apu on her nightstand, which was inscribed with the message "Don't have a cow."The scene generated further complaints from viewers.Azaria voices multiple characters on the show, including Moe Szyslak and Chief Wiggum. He told Colbert he just wanted to be funny."The idea that anybody, young or old, past or present was bullied or teased based on the character of Apu, it just really makes me sad," Azaria said. HERRIMAN, Utah – If you were to take a step into the workshop of Heidi Swapp, a mix of sawdust and noise would greet you almost instantly.“This is where all the magic happens,” said Swapp.Her oldest son works alongside her, providing some support and even some comic relief when needed.“Ok, go back to work,” she said to her son with a smile.The workshop is where Swapp comes to create.“I do love it. I love the possibilities,” she said.Swapp has always been crafty, whether in the workshop or at her home.“Photos and stories are super important to me and it brings me joy,” she said.However, for a few years, she couldn’t bring herself to create anything.“When Cory passed away, I just couldn’t scrapbook anymore,” she said.Cory is her second oldest son.“Cory called me and told me that he loved me and told me goodbye,” she said with tears in her eyes.Just months after his 16th birthday, Cory died by suicide.“I was completely shocked,” Swapp said. “I didn’t even know that was tumbling around in his mind.”She said Cory was seeing a therapist at the time of his death.“We had met for about an hour and it was a very tender and wonderful conversation,” she said.About 45 minutes later, Cory was gone.“The hard thing about suicide is you’re left with questions and it’s not one question, it’s 10,000 questions,” Swapp said. “It’s questions that you will never have answers for.”Through a podcast called “Light the Fight,” Swapp started talking about the things most families struggle to talk about – mental illness.Alongside her for each weekly episode is Cory’s therapist.“Both of us had been in that room and both of us had been trying to help him,” she said.Now, they help others.“I believe 100% that if we can shine light and if we can talk about stuff, then we’re in the fight and we can go to work,” she said.It was what motivated Swapp to go back to work and to create once again.In a way, Cory is there too. Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger said Wednesday that the state would conduct a hand recount in the 2020 presidential election.Raffensperger said a hand recount would help reassure voters of the integrity of the election. According to The Associated Press, Raffensperger says he wants the process to begin this week and expects the recount to be finished by Nov. 20.Under Georgia law, candidates are entitled to request a recount if the outcome percentage is within 0.5%. Biden currently holds a 0.28% lead in the state. Raffensperger says once the hand recount is finished, the losing candidate can then request a second machine hand recount.The presidential race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in the state remains too close to call, though Biden holds a lead of more than 14,000 votes in the state with 99% of the vote count.Recounts typically only affect the outcome of about a few hundred votes. In a 2016 recount of the presidential election in Wisconsin — which went to Trump by a margin of about 20,000 votes — the outcome only shifted about 500 votes. A recount in Florida in 2000 did have an impact on the election, as it was the tipping-point state in the election and was decided by about 500 votes.Officials in Georgia have not reported any systematic issues with the vote that would indicate widespread issues in tallying.Even if the vote count were to flip in Georgia, Biden is projected to still have more than the required 270 electoral votes to claim the presidency.
