SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The family of Rebecca Zahau said they are filing a new lawsuit against the San Diego County Sheriff's Office for refusing to provide access to records regarding the sheriff's investigation into her death.The family is also petitioning on the San Diego County Medical Examiner - both current and former - to change her cause of death to homicide or undetermined from suicide.On July 13, 2011, Rebecca Zahau’s nude body was reportedly found hanging from a balcony at the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado. Investigators said her hands and feet were bound with red rope. The same red rope was discovered hanging over the balcony.Authorities said Adam Shacknai called 911 to report her death. Shacknai was staying at the mansion that was owned then by his brother Jonah Shacknai, Zahau's boyfriend.Zahau, 32, had been babysitting her boyfriend’s 6-year-old son Max when he suffered serious injuries in a fall down a staircase at the home. The boy died from his injuries five days later.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Zahau’s death a suicide. Authorities have suggested she took her own life out of remorse and sorrow over the boy’s injuries.The Zahau family rejected the suicide conclusion, and for many years, they have believed she was murdered by Adam Shacknai. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Fleet Science Center is offering a program that helps San Diego students navigate their way through any challenges they face while distance learning.Participating students will have to go through a health screening before entering the building at Balboa Park.Once inside, classrooms are transformed into individual hubs. Students each have a workspace where they use their own electronic device to connect to their distance learning classrooms. Educators are there helping with any issues that may come up.Andia Pebdani, the Youth Engagement Manager for the Fleet Science Center, said the idea of the hubs came from families who needed help juggling the work life with schools being closed.“Some families don’t have the option at home, or it’s like, ‘I needed to do this so I can do my job, but I can also make sure my student is on the computer,’” said Pebdani.During breaks, educators work on different science activities with the kids or they get tours of different parts of their museum since their doors are still closed to the public.The cost for this program is 0-0 a week depending on whether you have a membership with the center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The names Linda and Charles Van Kessler might have sounded new, but their efforts were anything but."I started the charity in 1978 and I had to work very hard through jobs when I came here to California," Charles Van Kessler said.Charles was an orphan at a young age in Europe when he arrived to the states and met his wife, Linda."I just felt I needed to do something and it's been phenomenal since," Charles described. "We want to help children that don't have it as easy and are bearing burdens that are too much for their age."That's when the couple created Passion4Kids, a non-profit that helped handicapped, abused and neglected children."We bring toys we bring games we pray with them, we play with them. We do just a lot of stuff to make these kids happier."They felt the effects of COVID-19 like many other organizations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The county's average price for a gallon of gas eclipsed for the first time since May 22, according to AAA.The average price of regular gas in San Diego spike 9 cents Saturday and has risen 10 of the last 12 days for a total of 35.8 cents, according to AAA.Since last month, the average price is up more than 40 cents.MAP: Click here to find the cheapest gas in your areaIn California, however, the statewide average sits at .95 a gallon. The national average rests substantially lower, at .65 a gallon.The rise in gasoline prices has been attributed to several issues at refineries in California and just weeks after attacks on Saudi Arabia oil fields.
