San Diego (KGTV)- It’s been one year since the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, killing three members of the same family. The husband and father of two of the women is still calling for changes along the beach.Dr. Pat Davis says this past year has been tough after losing wife Julie Davis, daughter Annie Clave and sister-in-law Elizabeth Charles.The family was out for a day at the beach last August when suddenly the bluff gave out.“It was important for me that this kind of accident never is able to happen to any other family,” says Davis.Davis says since the tragic accident, there has been little change at Grandview beach. “There’s very few new signs warning people about these cliffs.”Davis is calling on local and state leaders to stabilize the bluffs. He’s hoping a new bill will help. S.B. 1090 offers solutions like sand replenishment. It currently sits in the Senate.“We got over 4,000 signatures in one month of people supporting the bill.”In the meantime, Davis is thanking the community for its continued support. A park bench sits at the top of Grandview Beach, honoring his family members.“Not that there’s an easy side of learning to live with the loss and one of your children but, certainly family support and community support has been a great help in allowing my family to move forward.”Davis says community members also came together to place another memorial bench in their neighborhood. 1423

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Reports show some people are so desperate to get the new COVID-19 vaccine that they are offering boutique physicians thousands of dollars to jump the line — but doctors say that is not an option.Money can certainly get you perks: personalized care, treatment, even at-home COVID tests."Concierge clients definitely get privileges," Dr. Donna Ni said. "They really don't want to go to the doctor's office. They want to be seen at home. So a lot of the outpatient services are actually delivered at the patient's home."Dr. Ni owns San Diego Concierge Medicine, a boutique private practice offering medical and aesthetic services. With another surge in COVID-19 cases and the new vaccine roll-out, she says her clients are getting curious."They ask, 'How can I make sure I have plasma antibodies? How can I make sure I get Remdesivir? Do I qualify for Regeneron?'" Dr. Ni said.Some reports show the rich and famous in Los Angeles are getting antsy, asking their concierge doctors to administer the vaccine now. Some are even offering thousands of dollars in donations to jump the line. But Dr. Ni says that is not possible."It is only to the hospitals, to the front lines, and none of my members are going to be able to get that," Ni said. "Pfizer is highly controlled by the government right now, so we just tell the clients to wait a little."What they are doing now is preparing and connecting clients who fall in the second tier to hospitals with the vaccine."We want to make sure that our clients are one of the first in the second tiers," Ni said.While there are no jumping tiers or skipping the line, Dr. Ni says concierge clients do get perks, a doctor personally advocating on their behalf to get care quickly."We are not trying to get them to a different priority group," Ni said. SAN FRANCISCO — A California appeals court has upheld an order requiring Uber and Lyft to treat their California drivers as employees instead of independent contractors, less than two weeks before voters will be asked to exempt the ride-hailing giants from the state’s gig economy law. The two companies have more than 400,000 drivers in California alone. Treating Uber and Lyft drivers as employees would guarantee benefits such as overtime and sick leave.Uber and Lyft had appealed an August ruling by a San Francisco judge, but the appellate ruling found "no legal error" and allowed the earlier ruling to stand. The legal fight started after state lawmakers passed a law that says companies can classify workers as contractors only if they perform work "outside the usual course" of the company's business. Thursday's decision won’t have any immediate impact because it doesn’t take effect for at least 30 days, well after the Nov. 3 vote on Proposition 22.Uber and Lyft, along with DoorDash, have heavily bankrolled the ballot measure.Proposition 22 on the California ballot this fall asks voters to create a special designation for drivers of app-based companies to be excluded from the new state law. 1216

SAN DIEGO (KGTV): Wall Street set a record last week for the longest "Bull" run in US Stock Market history, topping 3,400 days of growth. Now, financial experts are saying it won't last forever and advising clients to prepare for a downturn."You have to expect at some point, we're due," says Dennis Brewster of SagePoint Financial. "I think everybody's almost forgotten, look at earlier in the year, how sharp the markets broke back in February. So it wouldn't be unusual to see any of those declines coming up later this year or early next year."Brewster says he doesn't expect anything as drastic as 2008, but he still says investors should take a few steps to safeguard their earnings and even make the downturn work in your favor.A lot of it, he says, depends on how close you are to retirement."When you look at the year to year returns, they're all over the board. When you look at the 20-30 year returns they're very close," says Brewster. "If you're younger and have 20-30 year horizons, the day to day gyrations are almost noise to you. But if you're getting closer to retirement or in retirement, then you have to be more careful."'Brewster looked up numbers from the S&P 500 for the last 20 years. He says someone who invested ,000 in 1998 would have lost about ,300 after the crash in 2008. But if they kept their money in until 2018, that same ,000 investment would now be worth more than ,000.He says older investors should be more conservative with their portfolios. SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has voted to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California’s sanctuary laws.The board voted 3-1 Tuesday afternoon to support the lawsuit. The board directed that the County’s attorney to file an amicus brief supporting the federal lawsuit.The deadline to file a brief passed, so Chairwoman Kristin Gaspar said the earliest the county can file a brief is if the ruling is appealed to a higher court.RELATED: Escondido City Council votes to support sanctuary policy lawsuitSupervisor Greg Cox was the only one opposed to supporting the lawsuit.
