SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A border officer admitted in court Wednesday to putting his hands around a person's neck and shaking them at the Calexico Port of Entry two years ago.U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Esaul Bello, 53, pleaded guilty to using unreasonable force on the individual while on duty in the primary vehicle lane booth at the Calexico Port of Entry on Nov. 26, 2018.U.S. Attorney Office officials say during inspection, Bello placed both of his hands around the person's neck, even though they were not resisting. Officials say Bello then shook the person.The person was applying for admission to the U.S., officials said.As part of the plea, Bello agreed to resign from his position.“This is a rare and troubling situation,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “We will always move swiftly to protect the public from officers who use their power to violate another person's Constitutional rights.”Bello will be sentenced on June 2, 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City pool is now drained and shut down after vandals threw glass into it.Parents who bring their kids to the Allied Gardens pool for swim lessons were notified on Monday of the closure. "Honestly my reaction, I just kind of sat there dumbfounded, they called and said the classes were canceled, me being curious I asked why, they said vandalism. I said you have to be kidding. This is my neighborhood!" said Marie Veenstra, a mom of three.She says two of her children attend lessons at the pool on Glenroy Street four days a week. "It is super frustrating, not only as a mom who can't bring her kids to the pool, but thinking about the environment," said Veenstra.The City says broken shards of glass can be impossible to see or retrieve without draining the pool. Broken glass found in and around the pool results in having to drain the pool completely, conduct a thorough cleaning of the pool bottom to retrieve remaining pieces of glass, refill the pool with water and necessary chemicals to ensure the pool is safe and then reopen the facility.The City's safety protocol is consistent with the Model Aquatic Health Code. Draining and refilling the more than 320,000-gallon pool will cost the City roughly ,000 when factoring in personnel. "We love our pool though, we wish this didn't happen, but we'll come back."City officials say a police report has been filed, but there are no leads as to who threw glass in the pool. 1458

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego family is pleading for their father back after they say officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement apprehended him on June 20. Their father is expected in court on July 18. Gilberto Mayorga's children say it's hard to imagine life separated from him. "He's been here's since he was 17, 16. All he knows is San Diego. All he knows being here," his daughter, Eugenia Mayorga said. They say their father met their mother and started their family. He was deported but quickly came back so he could help their mother, who was struggling to support their family. "As soon as he came back, I remember having a roof over our heads," his daughter Bridgette Rembao, said. "I feel like the only crime he made was to come back and financially support us." ICE painted a different picture of Mayorga. ICE officials say he had previously been removed from the country five times. He served 100 days in federal prison for illegally entering the country. They say he has two felony criminal convictions for drug offenses and was sentenced to more than than five months in jail. He was also convicted of two other misdemeanors. ICE officials released the following statement to 10News:“While no class of alien present in the country illegally is exempt from ICE enforcement efforts, ICE officers do prioritize individuals they seek to apprehend and remove including criminal aliens, especially those who have repeatedly ignored our nation’s immigration laws.” 1500

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A brush fire burning near the border in Otay Mesa grew to 10 acres Monday afternoon, according to Cal Fire. Thick, white smoke could be seen billowing from miles away. Cal Fire originally reported the fire around 4 p.m. burning in Tin Can Canyon. The fire then grew to five acres before Cal Fire posted a third tweet, noting that the blaze had grown to 10. "Firefighters continue to make progress," the agency said Monday evening. Just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, the agency said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread.#BorderFire [update] The IC reports that the forward rate of spread has been stopped.
