Sears is swinging the ax again. The struggling retailer announced plans to close another 46 Sears and Kmart stores.The company has already closed more than 100 stores this year -- including the last remaining Sears in its hometown of Chicago -- as it attempts to stem losses.Employees at 13 Kmart stores and 33 Sears stores were notified that their locations would close by November.When Sears and Kmart merged in 2005, they had about 3,500 US stores between them. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver told 10News she was terrified as she crashed through the front of a San Marcos doggy daycare Friday morning. The crash happened at Sandy Pawz, 630 Nordahl Road, as a crowd looked on. The driver was reportedly distracted by her own dog. “She decided to help me drive, and jumped up,” said the woman who only wanted to be identified as Robin. “Everything was crashing down on my windshield and I didn't know what was in front of me.” The car went past the front lobby and through drywall into a second room. “I consider myself a very smart person but I froze out of fear...fear, and then I thought I was going to die.” No pets or people were harmed. SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Wildfires that have claimed at least five lives and forced tens of thousands of people from their homes continue to blaze around California.Three major collections of fires are threatening tens of thousands of homes in the San Francisco Bay Area and central California.According to CNN, Vacaville — a city located between Sacramento and the Bay Area — is among the cities hardest hit by the wildfires.More evacuations are expected as hot and gusty weather continues into Friday.Daniel Berlant, the assistant deputy director of Cal Fire, says that the 22 major wildfires that are currently burning have burned more than 600,000 acres of forest.Officials believe that most of the wildfires were started by lightning and have been exacerbated by a historic heatwave and dry conditions.It wasn’t immediately clear whether the fatalities included a Pacific Gas & Electric utility worker who was found dead Wednesday in a vehicle in the Vacaville area. (KGTV) - A pedestrian was hit and killed Saturday morning while on a sidewalk in San Marcos, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.The woman was walking on the 500 block of E. Mission Road around 11 a.m. when she was hit by a black BMW that jumped the curb. Skid marks show the car first tried to stop on the asphalt, then hit the curb, a teenage girl, a tree then a wall. Witnesses said the driver is a baseball player and senior at Mission Hills High School.7-Eleven employees told 10News, the victim is also a student. They said she was at school Saturday morning for dance team rehearsal and walked over to the 7-11 on Mulberry on her break to buy some snacks. On her walk back to school, they said she was hit and killed.Friends of the young woman gathered at the crash site to pay their respects, lay flowers and light candles Saturday night. The driver was not injured and stayed on scene to cooperate with investigators.The cause of the crash is under investigation.Students say that stretch of Mission Road is known for speeding.
