EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man fatally stabbed inside an East County condominium has been identified as an active-duty service member.Anderson Lopes, 24, was found unresponsive at his El Cajon condo just after 10:30 p.m. on March 6, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Lopes's wife said her husband was injured in an assault inside the home in the 13000 block of Pinkard Way.Lopes was treated at the scene and brought to a nearby hospital, but died from his injuries. His wife, who said she was trying to break up the fight, was stabbed in the thigh and underwent surgery.RELATED: Suspect arrested in El Cajon stabbing deathSDSO said Lopes was an active-duty service member in the U.S. Navy.Deputies detained Dylan Poston, 26, at the scene. Poston has been charged with one count of murder and is being held without bail at San Diego County Jail.It's not clear what led to the reported altercation.The murder is still under investigation. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - When their friend was diagnosed with cancer, two El Cajon fifth-graders never imagined it would make her feel unwelcome at school. "She was coming back to school for half days because she was feeling a little bit better, and we heard that she was being bullied," said Wriley Lee, referring to her friend Trianne Nguyentu.Lee and another student, Matthew Stevens, decided they needed to do something to support Nguyentu. "Most people here don't really care what your appearance is, and after I heard about that, I said that's not right," said Lee.RELATED: San Diego grandmother grateful for man's random act of kindnessSo the Vista Grande Elementary students decided to shave their heads in solidarity. "Honestly, at first, I didn't believe them. I thought they were trying to get a rise out of me because it was so unexpected," said Principal Tita Cordero-Bautista. But the students were serious, so Cordero-Bautista teamed up with a school counselor to guide the students through the process.To teach more students a lesson in empathy and compassion, the counselor helped Lee and Stevens give an announcement to their classmates explaining their choice. "Appearance doesn't really matter; it just matters what's on the inside," said Lee. (KGTV) – Two people died after being struck by an oncoming vehicle along I-8 Sunday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, a single vehicle was involved in a crash on I-8 near El Cajon, California just before 1:30 a.m.Following the crash two good Samaritans stopped to help the man out of his vehicle.While the crash victim and one of the good Samaritans were talking on the side of the road, another vehicle failed to see both victims and struck them, according to CHP.Authorities say the investigation is ongoing but haven’t ruled out drugs or alcohol being factors in the crash. 624
Dog owners from across the country boarded their dogs at Young Gunz Kennel so they could be trained to be hunting dogs.But now, owners are wondering how their pups were left for dead in kennels.After dropping off her puppy "Duke" at Young Gunz?Kennel in early April, Dani Allison of Spencer, Iowa, heard yesterday that Duke was one of three dogs found dead at the facility and the owner, Dustin Young, was nowhere to be seen. "I think that he let our dog die and didn't have the courtesy to call us or tell us or do anything but put him in a black bag," says Allison. Pottawatamie County Animal Control seized the dogs that were still living yesterday and took some to the Council Bluffs Humane Society and others to a makeshift shelter in Oakland where their owners could pick them up. "All of them were pretty shaken of course at the time because none of them had water in probably two days. So we did give them water and food of course but there was a lot of diarrhea and things like that that you have to deal with," says Matt Wyant, who oversees animal control in Pottawattamie County. 1134
