SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is taking another jab at tackling the housing crisis. In a press conference Wednesday, Supervisor Dianne Jacob revealed a set of pre-approved plans to build granny flats throughout the county. Homeowners can choose between plans for a 600 or 1,200 square foot designs. The program can help homeowners save up to ,000 in design and permit fees. Tom Tanner recently built a granny flat on his home in Lakeside. "I was looking for that additional income to offset the cost of everything," said Tanner. "If it’s doable, yea, do it it all comes down to the numbers, how much they can afford what they’re going to get back."The county is currently working on developing four other designs for homeowners to choose from. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Jodie Grenier joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school, serving two tours in Iraq as part of the invasion in 2003 and the following year as an intelligence analyst in Falluja."My job was very meaningful and purposeful to me," said Grenier. "I fused information from all different sources; whether it was sniper teams, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors on the ground, and really built a picture to brief unit commanders and mitigate threats to our troops."Grenier had tremendous responsibility but says the transition to civilian life was difficult."Finding employment. Having odd questions about whether I contributed as maybe the same as my male counterparts. It was a bit frustrating," she said.In her search for a new direction, Grenier came across a listing posted by Military Women in Need, a Southern California nonprofit founded in 1920 as a housing association for widows and war nurses. The group was looking for a new leader and with a passion for helping others, Grenier stepped in. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have arrested a 26-year-old in connection with a Logan Heights house fire that killed three of his family members last weekend.Police say Wilber Romero was arrested Friday for homicide and arson in connection with the deaths of his parents 44-year-old Jose Romero and 46-year-old Nicolasa Maya-Romero, and his sister 21-year-old Iris Romero in a house fire on Sunday. Romero's mother and sister died at the hospital in the days following the blaze while his father died in the fire. The family’s 23-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son remain in the hospital. He has been booked into county jail and is set to arraigned on Oct. 22.On Oct. 13, the fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Clay Ave. Firefighters had to go inside and pull the victims out.Romero, who identified himself to 10News that morning as the family's oldest son, said he awoke to find his bed on fire and tried to yell for his family to get out of the home."My dogs were jumping on me, trying to wake me up. I woke up. When I woke up, my bed was on fire. I jumped out of bed and started screaming the house is on fire," Romero said after the blaze.One witness told 10News he could see one of the victims reaching through the bars in the windows, unable to escape the fire."The minute I stepped out of my restroom, my house on the inside felt warm, like really warm. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego gyms are closing amid coronavirus, forcing residents to work out from home and sparking many tips on how to stay fit amid COVID-19. 24-Hour fitness, a popular San Diego gym, sent out a message Monday night noting that the gym would close March 16 until further notice. "As we all grapple with the enormous scale and impact of the coronavirus in the U.S., it reminds us of how precious life is and the importance of protecting our own health," CEO Tony Ueber said in a news release.
