Just before noon Saturday, a team of volunteer rescued climbers with Portland Mountain Rescue made contact with a 35-year-old injured climber who fell several hundred feet near Hogsback Ridge.Rescuers verified that the climber was in serious but stable condition. A helicopter with the Oregon Army National Guard was unable to reach the patient because of high winds.The helicopter returned to the mountain, still battling extremely dangerous winds, was able to drop of a National Guard Medic on the mountain to tend to the patient.The helicopter was forced to return to the Portland-area to refuel, but once again returned to once again try and evacuate the patient.The decision was made to transport the patient with a snowcat to a lower elevation.At approximately 7:45 p.m., the rescue crew that was with the patient was able to safely get the patient to Timberline Lodge parking lot where the Air Medic Evacuation Unit was waiting to transport the him to the hospital.The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office would like to extend a sincere thank you to our partners who assisted in the search and rescue effort: Portland Mountain Rescue, American Medical Response Reach and Treat, Hood River Crag Rats, Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, and the Oregon Army National Guard. 1280

(KGTV) - A Monterey Cypress known as the “Dr. Seuss Tree” or “The Lorax Tree” toppled over early Thursday morning in La Jolla.The unique shaped tree has been theorized to be the inspiration for the colorful trees in “The Lorax,” written in 1971 by Theodor Geisel, known best as "Dr. Seuss."Geisel lived in La Jolla from 1948 until he died in 1991. The tree is located in Ellen Browning Scripps Park near La Jolla Cove.The tree had become a tourist destination for Seuss fans around the world, with its long, drooping branches and leaves.As of Thursday night the tree was still lying on the ground. Kroger Health recently received emergency approval for a COVID-19 at-home test collection kit.The kits will first be available to frontline employees at Kroger brand stores based on medical need, according to a press release from Kroger. JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) - Neighbors are calling for more safety measures after surveillance video captured a fiery collision at an intersection in Jamul.A week ago, just before 5 p.m., Marc Burnett was opening up his off-road racing shop along Campo Road, when he heard it."I heard the skid marks hitting, and then I heard the boom," said Burnett.He ran outside and was greeted by flames."I just saw flames in the air. I saw a lot of flames. I saw the guy on the ground. He was on fire," said Burnett.Burnett raced back inside."I got the fire extinguisher, and had to put the motorcycle out -- and him," said Burnett.Burnett says the motorcycle driver, a man in his 30s, suffered serious burns to his hands and legs, but survived."He was very lucky that he survived," said Burnett.Burnett even more amazed when he looked at his surveillance video.In it you can see the truck pulling into the intersection from Maxfield Road and stop, before the eastbound motorcycle slams into the side of the truck, exploding into flames."Very scary to see that video. Didn’t know it was that bad until I saw it," said Burnett.Sadly, it was not unfamiliar.Burnett, who’s been in the area for more than 15 years, says he’s seen the aftermath of some eight serious accidents at that intersection, including a person killed crossing the road."It’s kind of a blind turn ... People coming out where the truck coming out ... It's hard to judge," said Burnett.Burnett is now lobbying for a traffic light at that intersection, which is often busy with casino traffic."Drivers are passing semi trucks on the turn. It's dangerous. If there was a light, people would have to slow down," said Burnett.The CHP says they investigation into the accident is ongoing.ABC 10News reached out to county officials about the neighbors' concerns and are waiting to hear back. 1841
