She has a shelf stocked with cleaning products that looks like a throwback to 2018.During our visit, she had Windex, Mr Clean, Spic n' Span, even a collection of N95 face masks, something that was impossible to find for five months.Mallory said many people don't realize that local hardware stores often have a much better selection than grocery or big box stores because of their group buying power, and the fact that fewer shoppers visit them for cleaning items.She said she can find almost anything, except those Holy Grail items: name-brand disinfecting wipes."We've tried ordering Lysol wipes," she said. "Absolutely. We're trying to keep up on what supplies we can. Some things are just not available."It's the same situation at grocery stores like Kroger.The spokeswoman for the nation's largest grocery chain, Kroger, Erin Rolfes said "our suppliers are continuing to work extra hours to keep up with the ongoing customer demand," but said shoppers buy out wipes and disinfectants the moment they are put on the shelves.So what can you do?Visit your grocery store midweek, first thing in the morning, when those wipes and other products are put out.Purchase store brands, or off brands, when you find them, especially when it comes to wipes and toilet cleaners.Visit your local hardware store, and get to know the manager. Some will hold products for you if you ask.Check Amazon frequently.But U.S. PIRG says resist the urge to pay double or triple the price on eBay, because that encourages sellers to charge even more.And report gouging to Amazon customer service. Thomson International issued a voluntary recall Saturday for thousands of pounds of onions due to possible salmonella contamination.The recall includes red, yellow, white and sweet yellow varieties.The recall came a day after the CDC issued a food safety alert for onions produced by the company after nearly 400 people from 34 states had been sickened with salmonella. Fifty-nine of those who were sickened were hospitalized.According to the CDC's food alert, red onions are most likely the cause of the outbreak, but because of the way the onions are grown and harvested, other types may have been contaminated.According to the FDA, the onions were sold in mesh sacks as small as two pounds and in cartons as large as 50 pounds. They were shipped to grocery stores in all 50 states and Canada on May 1, and were sold under a variety of brand names.The CDC recommends throwing away all onions from Thomson International or its associated brands. If it's unclear who grew the onions, the CDC also recommends throwing them away.The agency also recommends cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces that may have come into contact with the onions, including countertops, refrigerator drawers, knives and cutting boards.Restaurant goers should also ask where establishments got their onions, and not order any meals with onions if it's unclear where they were produced.Salmonella usually presents with fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. TIJUANA, Mexico. (KGTV) -- The female passenger of the truck that plowed into a row of street vendors and vehicles waiting to cross the Mexican-U.S. border Monday afternoon says she and the driver were fleeing an attack before the chaotic scene broke out. Summer Draper, who was injured during the incident and is being treated at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, says she and her boyfriend were visiting Tijuana from Utah when the incident occurred.Draper tells 10News the couple went to Tijuana to shop when their truck was allegedly attacked while asking for directions. RELATED: Tijuana crash suspect drove on suspended license“If we would have stopped the car we would have been dead. We had to run from these people they were attacking us,” Draper said. Draper says the pair didn’t make it to the shops, but instead, tried to reroute to the Costco back by the border. That’s when she says they asked for help. “They said the only way they'd be able to help is if he drove.”Draper says her boyfriend Frank Stricker, 29, was driving and, while he was hesitant, gave in and let the man help. “Instead of going left to Costco he’s going right,” Draper said, adding that’s when her boyfriend started yelling for the man to pull over. “In two seconds the guy pulls over the car and there’s a cop.”Draper remembers hearing gunfire before she says Stricker hit the gas to get away. Minutes later, she says they reached the border, but while stopped in the lanes, they were attacked. One video shows Stricker lying on top of a bloodied Draper outside the truck, seemingly to protect her from the crowd. After the crash, Draper was taken to the hospital where she claims to have been tortured. “They tortured, they laughed at me they had everyone taking pictures of me they seriously did all of this with no medicine I mean I felt everything,” she said. According to Draper, she spent the night at the hospital before being brought to the U.S. for further treatment. Stricker is currently in the custody of Mexican authorities and is facing attempted homicide charges. Videos and images from the incident show that Stricker also suffered injuries, his condition is unknown at this time.According to court documents from Utah, Stricker has drug charges extending back to 2008, including possession or use of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
