(KGTV) -- A traveling caravan was one of several events that took place around San Diego County to commemorate Juneteenth.Angie Stuart, a retired Southwestern College professor, said with the current unrest she felt it was important to show support for the African-American community, so she organized a caravan.On Friday morning, cars were decorated with posters, balloons, and streamers. People from all backgrounds came together to support one cause -- Black Lives Matter.The caravan gathered to mark this important day in history, Juneteenth -- the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas learned they were free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.RELATED: The history behind JuneteenthKatie Ness Santana brought her three kids to the caravan. She wanted them to learn about this significant day in history and why it’s important to have equal rights for all.“We just really wanted to celebrate this important day and raise awareness so the Black community throughout San Diego know we support them. Her way of bringing attention to the changes that need to be made.“I have a son that’s 39 years old. He’s one of the big, tall, dark skinned. He’s viewed as a threat, so I had to come out,” Jordan said. “We’re tired … this has been going on so long [and] something has to change.”Participants told 10News that they want Juneteenth to become a national holiday. 1590

CINCINNATI -- Police are looking for help finding a woman who took a blue morpho butterfly from Krohn Conservatory's special exhibit at about 5 p.m. Sunday. "I have never heard of anyone stealing a live butterfly from a butterfly show," said University of Cincinnati biology professor Stephen Matter Wednesday evening. The Menelaus blue morpho, which is prized by collectors for its vibrant, iridescent wing markings, lives natively in Central and South American forests. Although a news release from Cincinnati police identified it as "rare," it isn't especially, Matter said. (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized after police said he was stabbed while attempting to sell his car in Chula Vista.The incident happened at an apartment complex parking lot in the 3000 block of Moss Street at around 10 p.m. Monday, according to Chula Vista police.The victim told police he was trying to sell his 2000 Volvo when a potential buyer attacked him during the transaction and then sped off in his car.Police said the victim was stabbed at least once in his neck, and he was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown as of Tuesday morning.Police are now searching for the car and at least one male suspect. A detailed descriptions of the assailant was not immediately available. 750

CINCINNATI — A group of images meant to sell matching sets of Macy's festive family pajamas migrated onto Twitter this week, where they were presented as part of the company's holiday ad campaign and criticized for their depiction of the group's only black family. The images appear to depict four separate families: Two mixed-race, one all-white (with a fluctuating number of children, depending on the picture) and one all-black. The all-black family is the only one depicted with a single parent -- a mother with three sons. Some, including online activist Tariq Nasheed and Cincinnati Councilman Jeff Pastor, felt the picture played on stereotypes of black families, single mothers and what a Washington Post columnist once called "the dangerous myth of the missing black father." 807

CINCINNATI -- A Lebanon Correctional Institution inmate was sentenced to three years in federal prison for mailing threatening letters to President Donald Trump and other federal officials, authorities announced Monday.Rodney D. Cydrus, 48, mailed a total of five letters in January 2017 to the FBI and Federal Public Defender's Office threatening to injure them, federal judges and the president, according to court documents.In one letter, Cydrus wrote that he wanted to "go out with a bang" by killing or kidnapping a federal agent."As soon as I get out I’m going to get everybody I can in your office…Die Die Die…I promise my word I’ll get at least 30 of you before you kill me," one letter states.One letter also included a powder that turned out to be Cydrus' own medication, causing a HAZMAT response. "The federal officials whom Cydrus targeted have hard enough jobs as it is," U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman said in a news release. "Disrupting operations and creating an atmosphere of fear is a serious offense, and it’s important to deter this kind of intimidation campaign."Cydrus was an inmate at Lebanon Correctional Institution in Warren County at the time he sent the letters.A federal grand jury indicted Cydrus in February 2017. He pleaded guilty in January to one count of mailing threatening communications. He had faced up to 10 years in prison. 1389
