(KGTV) - A North County non-profit is helping homeless veterans get back on their feet and transition from military to civilian life.Wounded Warrior Homes runs three houses in Oceanside, Vista and Escondido.They help homeless veterans with "invisible" wounds like PTSD or brain injuries.Co-Founder Mia Roseberry says getting the vets into a safe, reliable home is often the most important step towards recovery."When you have a safe place to sleep, and you know you’re going to be safe when you open your eyes, and you’re going to be able to eat and have a place to take a shower and you’re safe, then you can go, "Oh, what’s next?'" says Co-Founder Mia Roseberry.According to the latest Point in Time count of the homeless, there are approximately 1,100 homeless veterans in San Diego County.Army Veteran Russ Hudson was one of them. After serving from 2009 to 2013, he suffered from PTSD. Hudson struggled with drug addiction and was in and out of shelters and assistance homes."I was in a dark place," he says. "I was stressed out, I wasn't able to sleep at night." trouble sleeping.Now, he's found stability with Wounded Warrior Homes. He's begun work training service dogs for other veterans dealing with PTSD."I love animals," Hudson says. "I’m from Mississippi, I grew up on a farm, I love dogs, and I was like, hey I’ll give it a try."He's the kind of success story that Wounded Warrior Homes helps create. Roseberry says housing a few veterans in each home helps keep them connected to the community."If you live in your own place, like in a one bedroom apartment, no one really knows you’re isolating yourself," she says. "With this, your roommates will ask why they didn’t see you at breakfast, or at dinner or during the day. They will call each other on it and drag each other out of the room."Volunteers help refurbish the homes and the organization offers weekly check-ins for the veterans. ORLANDO, Fla. — A federal judge is instructing the Census Bureau to text every 2020 census worker by Friday, letting them know the count of every U.S. resident is continuing through the end of the month and not ending next week, as the agency previously had announced in violation of her injunction.The new order issued late Thursday by U.S. District Lucy Koh in San Jose, California, instructs the Census Bureau to send out a mass text saying an Oct. 5 target data for finishing the nation’s head count is not in effect. (KGTV) -- A hotel approved for Oceanside Boulevard is frustrating many residents.City leaders who supported the 99-room Fairfield Inn & Suite say concerns brought up about the location were addressed by staff.They also told 10News that, once complete, the hotel will bring in more than 0,000 tax dollars per year.Regardless, residents who live in the area say the site selected will create traffic problems. Beyond that - it will mean that their neighborhood will get noisy. "This location is difficult to get in and out of," one resident said. One person is dead and seven others injured following a vehicle crash involving an Ypsilanti school bus on eastbound I-94 Tuesday morning.The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Pittsfield Township Fire Department, Ann Arbor Fire Department and Michigan State Police responded to the scene after a SUV rear-ended a disabled Ypsilanti school bus at the eastbound I-94 exit.The bus was being provided tow assistance for a flat tire. There were no students on the bus at the time, according to the Ypsilanti School District.Police report that the driver of the vehicle, including three infants inside, were trapped after crashing into the school bus.The three children were transported to the University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital in serious condition. Two people were transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in critical condition, and the tow truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly at the rear of the bus when the accident happened. According to a release, there were also two additional 'walking wounded' injuries caused from the crash.     1144
