WASHINGTON, D.C. – Donald Trump’s physician said in a memo released by the White House Saturday night that the president is no longer at risk of transmitting the coronavirus."This evening I am happy to report that in addition to the President meeting the CDC criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning’s COVID PCR sample demonstrates, by currently recognized standards, he is no longer considered a transmission risk to others," wrote physician Sean Conley.Conley said it’s been 10 days since Trump began experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, he’s been fever-free for “well over 24 hours” and all symptoms have “improved.”He said an assortment of advanced diagnostic tests reveal there is no longer evidence of actively replicating virus.“In addition, sequential testing throughout his illness has demonstrated decreasing viral loads that correlate with increasing cycle threshold times, as well as decreasing and now undetectable subgenomic mRNA,” wrote Conley. The doctor said that he will continue to monitor Trump “clinically” as he returns to an active schedule. The president has already announced that he plans to hold a rally in Florida on Friday as he ramps his re-election campaign back up. Saturday, he held an event at the White House, speaking to an audience from a balcony. 1312

WASHINGTON, D.C. – NASA announced this week that astronaut Jeanette Epps has been assigned to its Boeing Starline-1 mission. The mission is the first operational crewed flight of Boeing’s CST-100 Starling spacecraft on a mission to the International Space Station.Epps will join astronauts Sunita Williams and Josh Cassada for a six-month expedition planned for a launch in 2021 to the orbiting space lab. This assignment will also make Epps the first Black woman to live and work in space for an extended period of time, CNBC and USA Today report.Epps reacted to the announcement in a video on Twitter, saying she’s looking forward to the mission. While this will be her first time in space, Epps said she’s “flown in helicopters with Sunni flying” and been “in the backseat of a T38 with Josh flying.”Thank you @JimBridenstine! I’m looking forward to the mission.???? https://t.co/h2xIJMK1Ef pic.twitter.com/cSRf1SE4cr— Jeanette J. WASHINGTON, D.C. (KGTV) -- In a Sunday morning tweet, President Trump demanded that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the Trump campaign was "infiltrated or surveilled."Trump said that he will officially demand that the DOJ look into the alleged program Monday. Trump said he will also ask that the department look into whether “…such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!” 448

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney announced Tuesday morning that he supports a vote on President Donald Trump’s impending Supreme Court nominee.Romney was one of only a few senators who were thought to be on the fence about considering Trump’s pick and this announcement all but ensures the Senate will proceed with a vote and the nominee will likely be appointed to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's vacant seat.“The Constitution gives the President the power to nominate and the Senate the authority to provide advice and consent on Supreme Court nominees,” said Romney in a statement. “Accordingly, I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the President’s nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications.”My statement regarding the current Supreme Court vacancy: pic.twitter.com/6YO0dPWWXc— Senator Mitt Romney (@SenatorRomney) September 22, 2020 The president said Tuesday that he plans on naming his nominee on Saturday after the memorial services for Ginsburg have concluded this week. The justice and gender equality icon died Friday at the age of 87 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. On Monday, Trump met with conservative appeals court judge Amy Coney Barrett, who is considered a favorite for the nomination.Senate Judiciary chairman Lindsey Graham has said Republicans have the votes to confirm Trump’s pick before the Nov. 3 presidential election, which is just 42 days from Tuesday. That’s despite GOP Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins saying they oppose voting on a Supreme Court pick until after Nov. 3, when Americans will make their voice heard at the ballot box. Many Democratic leaders have called the Republican leadership hypocritical for pushing a Supreme Court pick through so close to the general election. In 2016, the GOP-controlled Senate refused to vote on then-President Barack Obama’s nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, who died nine months before that year’s general election. The Republicans argue that it’s different situation in 2020, because they have control of the Senate and the White House. 2141

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has ruled unanimously that states can require presidential electors to back their states’ popular vote winner in the Electoral College. The ruling, just under four months before the 2020 election, leaves in place laws in 32 states and the District of Columbia that bind electors to vote for the popular-vote winner, and electors almost always do so anyway.So-called faithless electors have not been critical to the outcome of a presidential election, but that could change in a race decided by just a few electoral votes. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.A state may instruct “electors that they have no ground for reversing the vote of millions of its citizens,” Justice Elena Kagan wrote in her majority opinion. The lawyer for the electors who challenged the state rules told The Associated Press that he’s glad the court acted now.“Obviously, we don’t believe the Court has interpreted the Constitution correctly. But we are happy that we have achieved our primary objective — this uncertainty has been removed. That is progress,” lawyer Lawrence Lessig said. 1123
