LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and his wife confronted a home intruder who attempted to kidnap their grandchild over the weekend in California.According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Montana told deputies that his 9-month-old grandchild was sleeping in a playpen Saturday when an unknown woman entered their home in Malibu and grabbed the child.Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted the woman and asked her to give back their grandchild. After a tussle, law enforcement officials say Jennifer Montana pried the baby out of the woman's arms. The sheriff’s office says the woman, whom authorities identified as Sodsai Dalzell, fled the home but was later arrested. She faces kidnapping and burglary charges. In a tweet on Sunday, Montana thanks those who reached out about the incident.“Scary situation, but thankful that everybody is doing well,” he wrote. “We appreciate respect for our privacy at this time.” 978

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who said he was shot in a station parking lot was lying.Assistant Sheriff Robin Limon said at a news conference late Saturday that Wednesday's "reported sniper assault was fabricated" by Angel Reinosa, a 21-year-old deputy.A department statement on Thursday had said a round hit the top of Reinosa's shoulder, damaging his uniform shirt but failing to penetrate his flesh. But Sheriff's Capt. Kent Wegener says no bullets were recovered from the scene and detectives saw "no visible injuries." He says Reinosa eventually admitted making up the story and using a knife to cut the two holes in his shirt.Reinosa has been relieved of his duties and will face a criminal investigation. Wegener says Reinosa didn't explain a motive. 807

LIVE OAK SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV)- Some residents in the Live Oaks Springs, Boulevard and Jacumba neighborhoods woke up with power. Others in East County haven't been so lucky. Residents without power say the outages happen every year, and they're frustrated. A local store owner in Live Oak Springs says he works hard all year to keep his store running, but the recent power outage will cost him almost a year's worth of earnings. "I lose business, I lose customers, now I lose all my stuff," says Sam Matthe. Matthe has been running the Live Oak Springs Market for four years. He says he's had power outages for the past two years, with some going on for days. Inside the store sits a large deli counter, freezers full of dairy items, produce, and a walk-in meat freezer in the back. Matthe says it's frustrating because he is on a different SDG&E circuit than others in the area. Just a mile north and south, those neighbors have power. "I don't know why. What's the difference?" says Matthe. "(It's) not too windy. They say its the wind, it's not; the wind it's normal."Matthe estimates he will lose more than ,000. SDG&E says some customers will have their lights turned back on this evening. 1215
