A police department in Arkansas has apologized for sharing a misleading warning about the danger of opioids on its Facebook page."The post about the fentanyl was sent so me from another officer at another Department," the Leachville Police Department wrote on Facebook Thursday. "I simply shared it. I’m should have checked into it further before I posted it. Sorry for the confusion."The Leachville Police Department warned residents to wipe down shopping carts before using them to protect against the dangers of fentanyl, a powerful opioid. "Fentanyl or something like that still on their hands and they touch that cart handle and then you do, it can get into your system," the department originally posted on Facebook. "Scary but worth taking the time to clean the handle. All you'd have to do is rub your nose or touch your child's mouth. I never even considered this possibility. Children being exposed to just the powder or residue is a bad situation that can turn deadly."While a police officer in Ohio recently claimed ot have overdosed on fentanyl by simply touching the substance, some experts dispute the officer's claim.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, opioids killed more than 33,000 people in 2015. A US Navy helicopter crashed onto the flight deck of an aircraft carrier in the Philippines Sea on Friday, injuring personnel on board.The MH-60 Seahawk hit the flight deck of the USS Ronald Reagan shortly after takeoff around 9 a.m., according to a statement released by the Navy's Seventh Fleet. All injured are in stable condition and are being evaluated by medical staff.The Navy did not say how many people were injured but that some "will be medically evacuated ashore" without specifying a location.An investigation has been opened into the cause of the crash, according to the statement.The incident occurred during routine operations in the Philippine Sea, which spreads north and east of the Philippines.The aircraft carrier "remains fully mission capable" and normal flight operations to support the mission of "support and security and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region" have resumed, the Navy said.Last week the Nimitz-class, or, nuclear-powered aircraft participated in the International Fleet Review near South Korea's Jeju Island.In May 2017, the USS Ronald Reagan began sea trials in the Pacific before replacing the USS Carl Vinson near the Korean Peninsula.The 1,092-foot Reagan carries a crew of 4,539 and is equipped with roughly 60 aircraft, according to the Navy. A staff member at a Michigan school is on administrative leave after a student says a teacher assaulted him for not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance. According to Brian Chaney, his 11-year old son Stone Chaney was in homeroom class the first week of school when a teacher snatched him out of his seat and forced him to stand for the Pledge. "He said, 'During the Pledge the teacher snatched me out of my chair,'” Brian said. Stone is a sixth grader at East Middle School in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Stone says he’s been sitting for the pledge since second grade when his father explained why he had the choice. His father says there’s never been an issue until now. Stone says the next day, another teacher yelled at him for the same thing, asking him if he had permission to sit during the pledge."For him to be violently snatched out of his chair by a lady and order him to stand and for her to just glare at him, it's wrong, it's a violation of civil rights," Chaney said.Farmington Public Schools Superintendent George Heitsch says they’re investigating the allegations.“We respect the rights of any individual to make personal choices around issues of faith and beliefs. A summer night at Cedar Point in northern Ohio in late June of 2015 was nearly over after one more ride for Theron Dannemiller, when the safety gates on the Raptor roller coaster got in his way."They started to shut on me," Dannemiller said. "I'm hurt and I look down and I can see the gash...you can see inside my leg."Dannemiller said something sharp on the gate caused a gruesome cut on the front of his shin that didn't heal for a year and now leaves a nasty scar."Most people are not aware that there is no tracking system for these injuries," Tracy Mehan, the Nationwide Children's Hospital Manager of Translational Research said. "We are able to get a feel for what's happening, but it's just an estimate."The comprehensive data she pulled together is little more than a best guess because no one tracks many of the bumps, bruises and even broken bones from amusement park rides. No one, at least, who is willing to share that information."There are people keeping track of the incidents and the injuries, but it's the amusement parks themselves," Jarrett Northup, a law partner at Jeffries, Kube, Forrest and Monteleone Co., said.Northup said in personal injury lawsuits, privately owned amusement parks hold all the cards because the injury data belongs to parks themselves. "It's probably data that the corporation feels can be used against them," Northup said.Cedar Point, for instance, has its own private police department and its own paramedics, so information about who they treat and what for isn't public."Having that information readily available to the public would make it easier to hold the amusement parks accountable," Northup said.There is some park injury information that becomes public when it's reported to the state.The Ohio Department of Agriculture requires stationary amusement parks, like Cedar Point or Kings Island near Cincinnati, to disclose an incident within 24 hours if it led to an overnight hospital stay. But even then, accountability is a challenge.Reports from the last five years documented many issues that had nothing to do with how the rides operate, like dizziness, elevated heart levels and heart attacks. It also shows that even parks struggle to figure out if an incident needs to be reported because they lose track of the injured person after they go to the hospital."If they go to the hospital and don't report that it was an injury due to an amusement ride, we don't see any of that," Mehan said. "So this is just the tip of the iceberg."In 2013, there's a record of when the state saw the iceberg below the water.In that report, the Department of Agriculture fined Kings Island 0 for not reporting an injury in 2013 until months later. Kings Island told the state they didn't know the injury created a long hospital stay, requiring a report, until the person who got hurt contacted them months after it happened. The park eventually paid the fine, costing them the price of 12 daily admission tickets.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland looked for what the state isn't capturing.Those private police departments and paramedics can't transport injured riders to the hospital, so they have to call local ambulances. Just in 2017, the Sandusky EMS call log shows five trips in six months to Cedar Point for injuries like a broken leg while getting on a ride, a dislocated knee from a waterslide and one child who fell off an inner tube and hit his head.None of those incidents created any report to the state.Cedar Point and Kings Island, both owned by parent company Cedar Fair, issued the following statement: 3641
