BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese equities rallied for the second consecutive trading day on Monday, and most stocks rose led by property shares as concerns over tougher measures on the property market eased.The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 3.48 percent to close at 2,673.42 points.The Shenzhen Component Index gained 4.03 percent to 10,620.13 at the close.Total turnover climbed to 222.12 billion yuan (32.53 billion U.S. dollars) from 156.19 billion yuan on the previous trading day.Gainers outnumbered losers by 884 to 1 in Shanghai and by 944 to 2 in Shenzhen.Property shares staged strong growth after the China Times newspaper reported that an official from the country's top economic planning body said that the the government would not impose a property tax within the next three years.China Vanke Co., the country's largest listed property developer by market value rose 4.19 percent to 7.70 yuan. CHICAGO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The macroeconomic control policies adopted by the Chinese government since mid-2008 have been proven successful, two economists said Saturday.Since late 2008, the Chinese government has taken a series of macroeconomic control policies to deal with the global financial crisis. The government carried on massive financial investment, some of which focused on real estate."In spite of some problems, the Chinese government has been making great progress in regulating and controlling the Chinese economy during the global financial crisis," Min Tang, a Chinese economist, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua."Everything has two sides, good and bad. This macroeconomic control policy is an action taken to fight against a crisis," he said.Tang believed that whether or not the policies are successful should be judged from the macro perspective instead of a micro perspective."China was able to resume its rapid growth first when the global economy was still going downhill," Tang said, "China also successfully kept the confidence of its people and enterprises, which is more important than anything else. Therefore, the government's macro control is very successful."

SHENYANG, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has encouraged local governments and farmers in northeast China to expand grain production to stabilize the nation's food supply.Hui made the call during an inspection tour to Liaoning Province, a major rice-producing province in northeast China, from Friday to Saturday.The grain planting situation this summer is challenging as persistent cold weather since last winter has ravaged major production zones in the north.Hui said northeast China is a key rice production area. With good quality, rice produced here has a great market demand. Hui encouraged farmers to plant more rice and expand production capacity.According to the Ministry of Agriculture, northeast China's grain output accounted for about one fifth of the country's total food yield last year.Grain output reached 530.8 million tonnes in 2009, the sixth consecutive year of growth in grain yield.

BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Industrial enterprises in China's 24 regions reported combined profits of 690.8 billion yuan (101.2 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter, more than double the figure of the same period last year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement Wednesday.The NBS did not provide reasons for the 102.6-percent profit surge. The figure was down 21.1 percentage points for the first two months of the year, the statement said.Analysts attributed the growth to a low comparison base during the first quarter of 2009 when the country's economic growth was dragged down by the global economic downturn. The economic recovery, backed by government stimulus measures, also helped lift profits.The People's Bank of China, the central bank, said in a statement last week that industrial production in the first quarter had accelerated and profits of enterprises continued to expand on growing domestic demand.Altogether 38 of the 39 major industrial sectors saw year-on-year growth in profits, with profits of the steel industry up 3,380 percent and those of the power sector up 1,540 percent, the statement said.
