CLEVELAND — Sex toys, envelopes and craft supplies are among the products Ohio workers say their companies continue to make or distribute under the protection of being so-called "essential employers" as most businesses across the state have shut down during the Coronavirus outbreak.Workers are raising concerns about their health and safety and remain skeptical whether employers are finding loopholes during Ohio's stay at home order issued by Gov. DeWine requiring non-essential businesses to close as of Monday night."I'm afraid of being fired if I don't come to work," said one employee at AmeriMark, a Cleveland-based direct marketer of women's apparel, shoes, cosmetics and health related merchandise --including more than 30 sex toys included in its "health living essentials."The company also distributes wrist blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, glucose monitors and wheelchairs. The Ohio Department of Health's "Stay at Home Order" specifically includes "distributors of medical equipment."In a recorded message to its employees, workers are being told, "We are happy to report AmeriMark will remain in operation during this period...in this unparalleled time, we are excited to serve AmeriMark customers."The company has not yet responded to our inquiry."My concern is that there are a lot of elderly women working here," said another worker concerned about passing the virus from person to person.The State's StanceDuring Tuesday's news conference, Lt. Governor Jon Husted acknowledged confusion over the definition of an "essential business" and referred employers to Ohio's coronavirus website."It's written in plain language, we ask you to follow the language and use your best judgment," said Husted. "Please don't call law enforcement and ask them to interpret it for you."Lt. Governor Jon Husted"You don’t need a letter, certification or clearance. You do need to have a rationale about how the order applies to you," said Husted. "We make one type of envelope for the postal service--I'm afraid of losing my job if I don't show up."A news release issued by by the company on March 17, said "precautionary measures have been put in place at both our office and manufacturing facilities as we continue to operate in our regular course of business."Cenveo, based in Stamford, Connecticut, identifies itself as a "world leader in the management of print and related offerings" and has not yet responded to our inquiry.Essential Crafting?Even craft stores, like Michaels and Joann Fabric and Craft Stores continue to remain open despite health concerns among employees."Crafting is non-essential," said one Michaels employee. "Are they above the rules?"A company release addressing the COVID-19 outbreak said "we are taking precautionary measures to ensure our corporate offices, stores, distribution centers and other facilities minimize the risk."In a message to Joann customers, the company said "now more than ever it is important to safely provide what these Americans need to support their livelihood, mental wellness and community giving."Among those items, the company is encouraging customers to help make "protective non-surgical masks and gowns during this critical time."The company adds that it is "taking action to ensure we are protecting our facilities, customers and teams across the nation."Ask Sherwin WilliamsA worker at a Sherwin Williams paint plant in Massillon asks, "Since when is bodyfiller and paint essential? (KGTV) - A group of armed suspects robbed a Sprint store on University Avenue in City Heights Monday night.San Diego Police say three suspects entered the store around 7:45 p.m. Witnesses told investigators that they were forced to the back of the store as the suspects raided a storage area.The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of tablets, phones and cash, said police.A car matching the description of the suspect vehicle was later spotted at the Mobil gas station on Camino Del Rio North in Mission Gorge. Three men were detained, however, after having witnesses attempt to positively identify them, police said they would not be arrested. 683

College students and loans seem to go hand in hand, and student loan debt is an ever increasing problem in the U.S.But it might surprise you what some college students are doing with any excess loan money they may have after paying for things like tuition, books, and housing.A study by the Student Loan Report found that approximately one out of every five students with loans have used loan money in some form to invest in cryptocurrencies—in other words, things like Bitcoin.But financial advisers caution that may not be the best decision.“My gut reaction,” said financial advisor Martin Walsh with Brown and Tedstrom, “is that it’s probably a bad idea.”Walsh said using borrowed dollars to invest in speculative assets, such as Bitcoin, would make him “very nervous.”Cryptocurrency is the formal word for a type of digital money that uses encryption to transfer funds, independently of a central bank.Walsh cautions:  “buyer beware.”“There’s been a ton of talk about cryptocurrency over the last year,” Walsh said, “mostly because of the massive run up in price.”Bitcoin — the biggest player in the Crypto game—saw prices for their “coins” at around ,000 in December. But fast forward two months to February and the price plummeted to ,000.Walsh has had clients ask about it mostly because “their friends have invested in them and have made money.”  But he says that as a general rule the firm he works for, Brown and Tedstrom, won’t advise clients to invest in cryptocurrency.“It seems fun and easy, and things have doubled, tripled, even quadrupled. But there’s incredible volatility in investing in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies,” said Walsh.Paul Foley, a big supporter of the technology behind cryptocurrency, says he has invested “quite a bit” in Ethereum, another player in the cryptocurrency realm. He says anyone investing now should see this as a “10 to 15 year plan”—not a short term way to make money.“I plan on holding for a very long time,” said Foley.But even he says that the notion of using borrowed funds, i.e. student loans, to invest in speculative assets like Ethereum is “a terrible idea.”Both Foley and Walsh say anyone looking to invest in this emerging field needs to do their homework. (KGTV) — Coronado officials say lifeguards received multiple reports of shark sightings this week, prompting warning signs to be posted for visitors.The city said four shark sightings were reported between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the sharks ranged in size from 6 to 10 feet long. One of the sharks was seen by a lifeguard who was on a personal watercraft.The sharks were reportedly within 40 yards of the South Beach area shoreline.The city has posted signs warning beachgoers who visit the area.Naval Base Coronado also posted on Facebook on Friday that shark activity was reported in the Breakers Beach area, and closed water activities until further notice.Just one month ago, a 12-foot great white shark was seen off Coronado's North Beach area by a lifeguard paddleboarding about 100 yards from shore, prompting a 24-hour warning to beachgoers but no water closures. 910
