ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Three weeks after the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, the community is urging city and state leaders to make some changes.Three women were killed during the collapse. A tribute was held this week at the Encinitas City Council meeting for the victims. That’s where father and husband Pat Davis spoke out, saying healing will take time. “There will be a new normal in my life without these three gifted women,” says Davis. Davis lost his wife Julie, daughter Anne Clave, and wife’s sister in the bluff collapse. The family was out for a day at the beach on August 2 when the sand and large rocks came crashing down. “We do not have to accept tragedy if it is preventable.”Davis is urging the city to stabilize the bluff by adding concrete walls against the cliffs, sand replenishment or even cutting off some public access to the beach. Some California lawmakers are pushing for the government to pay for the stabilization after congress approved the Storm Damage Project in 2016. It has sat idle since being approved. “I do not want to see what happened to my family happen ever again.”The mayor and other city leaders toured the beaches with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday, but so far no decisions have been made.  1315

(KGTV) - Three people are dead and two people were injured Friday when a bluff collapsed just north of Grandview Surf Beach in Encinitas, San Diego County Sheriff's deputies confirmed.The bluff fell about 3 p.m. near a lifeguard tower at the Grandview Beach staircase located in the 1700 block of Neptune Avenue, just below South Ponto State Beach.One person was flown to the hospital in critical condition. A second victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Both of those victims have succumbed to their injuries. Beach chairs and surfboards that had been positioned near the cliff were scattered as rescue teams began their work.The chunk of cliff that collapsed is about the size of a bus and is as heavy as a concrete wall, said geologist Dr. Pat Abbott. The area is 25 by 30 feet, lifeguard officials confirmed, adding that the debris reaches 10 feet at its highest point.Rising waves are creating a dangerous situation for first responders. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — A 12-year-old who got a hold of a firearm accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday.Escondido Police say the boy was at his home in the unincorporated area of Escondido just before 6 p.m. when he found a revolver. He started handling the firearm and a single round fired, striking him in the leg.The boy was taken to a nearby hospital with a non-life threatening injury. FALLBROOK, Calif. (CNS) - A 53-year-old Fallbrook man was fatally struck by a car while attempting to cross a street in Fallbrook, authorities reported Monday.A 58-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on South Mission Road about 12:15 a.m. Sunday when the victim ran westbound across the northbound lanes near Peppertree Lane and was struck by the sedan, California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Latulippe said.The pedestrian was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the officer said. The victim's name was withheld pending family notification.The Toyota driver remained at the scene and intoxication was not a factor in the crash, Latulippe said. 695
