Days after Christmas, Leon Haughton flew back to the US from his birthplace in Jamaica with three jars of honey. He had no idea they would cost him his freedom for nearly three months.The Maryland resident spent 82 days in jail after he was arrested December 29 and accused of bringing a controlled substance into the country. Haughton told CNN affiliate WJLA.Charging documents say the 46-year-old man told officers he had purchased the honey on the side of a road in Jamaica, but officers suspected it was liquid meth.Each of the three bottles tested positive for methamphetamine in a field test, according to a probable cause statement. Haughton was taken to a county jail to face multiple charges including importing a controlled substance into the state and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.He stayed there until March when the charges against him were dropped after a second test in a Georgia lab found no signs of drugs."Once I came out, all my insurances collapsed, my credit was destroyed," he told the affiliate. "I lost my job, everything. They just left me a mess."The father of six told WJLA he lost two jobs while sitting behind bars.But there was no error made in this case, the prosecutor's office said."A specially trained drug sniffing dog was alerted to the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and a preliminary test done by the police officers further tested positive for a controlled dangerous substance," the office said. "The confirmatory laboratory test showed (there) was no controlled dangerous substance inside the honey."ICE detainer in questionThe Anne Arundel County Prosecutor's Office said Haughton faced a no-bond house arrest on the state charges, but an ICE detainer prevented him from being released earlier.Terry Morris, Haughton's attorney, also said he was told there was an ICE detainer. Haughton also told the affiliate that upon his release he was told ICE had a hold on him.A spokeswoman with ICE told CNN there was no detainer issued for Haughton and referred questions to US Customs and Border Protection. When contacted by CNN, CBP declined to comment on the record.He doesn't want his honey backHaughton told the affiliate the whole ordeal put a great deal of pressure on his family."My kids were stressed out, my mom, everybody," he said. DETROIT — The Detroit City Council has canceled a stunt involving the car from the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" that was planned for an upcoming classic car show show because of the car's Confederate flag license plate.The high-flying jump involving the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am was to take place during the Detroit Autorama in early March.The move comes less than two years after the Autorama advertised a stunt at its 2017 show involving the General Lee from the "Dukes of Hazard" — the famous 1969 orange Dodge Charger emblazoned with a Confederate flag on its roof. CLEVELAND — Nadine and Robert Proe said facing a 2009 bankruptcy wasn't easy, but now 14 years later, they are still left with an unexpected ,000 demolition bill from the City of Cleveland.Robert Proe showed WEWS the documents proving he signed over his Cleveland home to EMC Mortgage when he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and said he heard almost nothing about his former home until it was demolished in 2016.Nadine Proe said neighbors were telling them the house was going downhill shortly after they moved out."It was heartbreaking because it was a good house," Robert Proe said. "Apparently it was vandalized, we never got any notice from the police. My neighbor mentioned a fire, never was contacted about a fire by the city."Robert Proe said he was told by a city inspector that he was no longer responsible for the home after the bank unsuccessfully tried to sell the home at sheriff's sale.But then, shortly after the house was taken down, he was shocked when he received the demolition and maintenance bill.He said he was never given any notice that the bank decided to vacate the foreclosure, and never took his name off of the property."If they would have told me in the beginning that I was still responsible for this house, it would have still been beautiful, someone could have bought it," he said. DENVER — A father, mother and their daughter were shot to death late Thursday night at a home in southwest Denver, and the suspect knew the victims well, according to police.Bustaman Kartabrata, 59, was arrested overnight at a home in northeast Denver, police Chief of Investigations Joseph Montoya said at a news conference Friday afternoon. He faces three counts of first-degree murder and felony menacing in the shooting.Investigators were still working to determine a possible motive in the shooting and whether Kartabrata was related to the victims. Montoya said Kartabrata was "very well acquainted" with the family."It was some sort of conflict that occurred that evening that led to this," Montoya said.The shooting happened Thursday night at a home in Denver. Police arrived and found two adults – a man and a woman – and a juvenile girl with gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the home, and the man and girl were pronounced dead at a hospital, Montoya said.Officials hadn't released the names of the victims as of Friday afternoon. Another juvenile was in the home during the shooting but escaped unharmed, Montoya said.A sale had recently closed on the home, and "there was indication there was people moving in and out of this home," Montoya said.
