(KGTV) - A San Diego man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he stabbed two classmates during a reenactment of a movie scene at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.The man, identified as Jake Wascher, 21, was in an on-campus apartment with two male classmates when the stabbing occurred."A 21 year old male suffered one puncture wound to the chest and four to the back. A second victim a 19 year old male suffered from a single puncture wound to the chest as well as a puncture wound to the back," Lieutenant Paul Cicero with Hartford Police said.Wascher attended the Coronado School of the Arts, a pre-professional arts education program on Coronado High School's campus. His Facebook page states he graduated in 2016.10News spoke with a former student of CoSA, who worked as a tech for a year."CoSA is really a mostly just a bunch of nerds, all of the acting kids and music students, just dorks really," Christian Molenaar said. "I feel like most people aren't worried about getting stabbed in high school theater," he said.Molenaar was shocked when he learned of the events that unfolded Sunday, saying his younger sister graduated the same year as Wascher.Police say Wascher fled the crime scene and hid in a nearby wooded area, then gave himself up. (KGTV) — Crews were searching for a Marine who hasn't returned from a skiing and hiking trip to the Sierras. First Lt. Matthew Kraft began his trip on Feb. 23 at the Kearsarge Pass trailhead, just west of the Independence, Calif., in Inyo County, according to the 1st Marines Division. He was scheduled to end in Bridgeport, Calif., on March 5. Kraft's skiing and hiking trip was set to cover the Sierra High Route, the Marines Division said.Crews are also trying to locate Kraft's rental car, a gray 2006 two-door Jeep Wrangler. A search and rescue effort involving Inyo County, Mono County, and Fresno County sheriff's departments was underway Saturday. 664

Michelle Lujan Grisham wants to provide state residents with free tuition to public colleges, a plan that, if passed by the state legislature, would add New Mexico to the growing list of Democratic-led states to offer free higher education.Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, announced the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship on Wednesday while speaking at an education summit at Central New Mexico Community College. The plan would provide free undergraduate tuition at New Mexico colleges for in-state residents and aims to cover nearly 55,000 students a year. It would cover tuition and fees for recent high school graduates at four-year public colleges as well as recent high school graduates and returning adult learners at two-year community colleges."We're going to deliver a major boost. F-R-E-E, let's make it proof," Lujan Grisham said drawing a standing ovation and applause from the audience. "It's been a really long time since I crossed the stage for my diploma at the University of New Mexico, but even though I spelled it out very slowly, I still know what FREE spells and I also know that free college for New Mexico students is the right thing to do."The program is estimated to cost between to million, according to Lujan Grisham's office, and would be paid for in part by federal grants and the New Mexico Legislative Lottery Scholarship. Lujan Grisham's office said the state legislature -- where Democrats control both houses -- will need to decide how to fund the rest of the program and will take up the matter in early 2020.The plan would make New Mexico the latest state to join the movement for free college tuition. He had an opportunity earlier in life to meet some of the last living Civil War veterans, but he didn't go.Now 100-year-old Sidney Walton is giving people across the country the chance to meet one of the last living World War II veterans.Walton has been on a mission to visit all 50 states over the past year and a half, and he passed the halfway mark earlier this month. He's made it to 26 states, meeting with governors and anyone who will hear his story.He wants people he meets to remember the sacrifice World War II veterans made, especially as there aren't many left. Fewer than 400,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II are alive, according to US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics.RELATED: Thousands of service members return to San Diego for ThanksgivingIn April 2018, Walton started sharing his message. He decided to leave his home in San Diego and meet with governors of each state as a way to reach a large number of people.He first met with Rhode Island Gov. He calls it his "No Regrets Tour.""We're going to complete this tour," Paul Walton, Sidney Walton's 64-year-old son, told CNN.
