(KGTV) — An investigation is underway to find a mail thief who appears to be targeting military families living on Camp Pendleton.A few weeks ago, Jessica, a Marine wife who lives on the base, went to her mailbox and saw a card from a friend in Arkansas."Opened up my card, and after I opened it, I realized there was a slit down the side," said Jessica.After a closer look, Jessica realized someone had been in her mail."A clean cut down the side. Didn't get caught on anything. A machine didn't make this ... Just irritated. It's an invasion of privacy," said Jessica.Jessica says her card never did contain any cash or gift cards, but others on base haven't been as lucky."They're furious, and they want something done," said Jessica.Jessica says on various Facebook pages connected to the base, hundreds have posted photos of tampered mail received in the past two months. The envelopes are usually missing cash, gift cards or checks."Pretty disgusting. Pretty shameful ... It's no accident it's happening to us. Military families are an easy target. We're not with our families. Families make up for it by sending us a little extra, definitely for our kids," said Jessica.So what is the commonality when it comes to the mail? It's processed and delivered by the Postal Service. The closest post office is about a mile-and-a-half from the base.The Postal Inspection Service confirms they've begun an investigation, along with an internal probe. (AP) — Facebook is tightening its policy against QAnon, the baseless conspiracy theory QAnon, which paints President Donald Trump as a secret warrior against a supposed child-trafficking ring run by celebrities and government officials."Starting today, we will remove any Facebook Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts representing QAnon, even if they contain no violent content," a blog post from the company stated on Tuesday. The move comes less than two months after Facebook said it would stop promoting the group and its adherents — but faltered with spotty enforcement. Facebook said since they stepped up these measures in August, they have removed more than 1,500 pages and groups for QAnon containing discussions of potential violence and more than 6,500 pages and groups connected with militarized social movements.Facebook said Tuesday that it will remove Facebook pages, groups and Instagram accounts for “representing QAnon.”"Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts that represent an identified Militarized Social Movement are already prohibited. And we will continue to disable the profiles of admins who manage Pages and Groups removed for violating this policy, as we began doing in August," the company stated. ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (KGTV) - When an earthquake strikes seconds of warning can save lives. That's why, for decades, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has been working with partners to create a warning system to do just that. "Eventually we would like to have something like an Amber Alert where you would get a text message that says shaking is about to occur in your area in a few seconds," said Alex Cadiao, a USGS Field Engineer.He's part of a small team which travels to remote parts of the state to install earthquake sensors into the ground. They provided 10News exclusive access to the region's newest sensor in Orange County. RELATED: 'ShakeAlert' message buzzes San Diego County phones"Ultimately we just want a grid across the whole state," said Christopher Bruton, Research Engineer at Caltech's Seismological Laboratory. There are 45 sensors throughout San Diego County, and dozens more are planned for the rest of Southern California. "The more sensors we have, the better the data, the greater coverage we have and better the quality, and faster response time of these stations," said Cadiao. The sensors work by detecting the initial, less-destructive waves of an earthquake, alerting people shaking is coming and to take cover.Seconds of warning can be critical for surgeons in the operating room, halting trains, or shutting off gas lines. The City of Los Angeles currently has the ShakeAlert app available to people in the city; the hope is that technology will eventually work statewide. "I get a lot of gratification knowing one day this will help save a lot of lives," said Cadiao. The engineers say it will likely be a few more years until all of Southern California will get ShakeAlert warnings on their cell phones.
