SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents may be seeing Uber delivery drones in San Diego's skies as soon as this year.Uber Elevate, Uber's drone and air transportation leg, announced this week during the Forbes’ 30 under 30 Summit that the company will begin testing Uber Eats delivery drones in summer 2020. The company added, though, that delivery service using partner drone operators could come in the coming months.A rendering of the Uber Eats drone shows six-rotors will allow the drone to take off and land vertically, with the ability to rotate to provide more lift and speed. The drone is designed to carry a meal for two people.Uber Elevate says the drone is designed to travel a total of 18 miles or 12 miles round-trip. The company says the drone is equipped to cruise below 400 feet and comply with existing regulations to operate the aircraft.The company estimates the drone can perform a delivery in eight minutes, including time to load and unload.The company says the design has passed the design review phase and is expected to fly before the end of the year. 1073

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County issued cease and desist orders to several businesses Monday after the county entered the state’s restrictive purple tier.According to the county, the orders were issued to several local restaurants, gyms, and yoga studios.The news came after Governor Gavin Newsom hit the brakes on economic activity, moving 28 more counties into the state’s most restrictive tier.The purple tier restricts capacity at retail businesses, closes gyms, and limits restaurants to outdoor-only service.Monday, Newsom forced 41 of California’s 58 counties to the purple tier. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a man died in custody after reportedly breaking down a fence and walking into someone’s home Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to the 2900 block of Hornet Way around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after receiving a call from someone saying a man, later identified as Buddie Thomas Nichols, 40, had entered his home through a rear door. According to police, the man broke down a fence and walked into the home through an open back door. Two of the residents were upstairs while their 9-year-old daughter was asleep downstairs, according to police. Police say one of the residents came downstairs when he heard commotion and confronted Nichols, punching him twice in the face and rendering him unconscious. Police say the suspect woke up and ran out of the house displaying bizarre behavior after the resident kicked him. Witnesses told police they believed the man was on drugs. When police arrived and tried to take the Nichols into custody, officers say he resisted, forcing them to use physical force to get him into handcuffs. After paramedics arrived, police say Nichols became unresponsive and later died after being taken to the hospital. 1215

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are investigating after a woman who was shot in Barrio Logan Friday night died.Police were called to the 2400 block of Harbor Drive around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Stephanie Kinman, who was shot in the area.When they arrived, officers found Kinman on the sidewalk near a vehicle.The Kinman was taken to the hospital where she later died.Throughout their investigation, detectives learned that the woman was shot near a pizza restaurant on the 1000 block of Dewey Street before being driven to Harbor drive by a “male companion.”The man told investigators that the victim got into a fight with a man and a woman. After the fight ended, Kinman was shot while getting into her car, police say.The shooter hasn’t yet been captured. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans on the hunt for a job can now get some help from the Central Library in downtown.They're launching a "tie-brary" where people can borrow work necessities just like checking out a book. “It can be extremely costly, and you want to look professional and at your best when you go into these interviews, and that’s a burden that could set you back," said District 6 Councilman Chris Cate.Cate's office donated ,000 to help launch the tie-brary. “So if you want to check out a tie for a job interview that you're going to be having you can come down to the library and check out a tie, or check out a portfolio, or whatever you need for that job interview. And then you return it just like you're returning a book," said Cate. Cate's office will be collecting ties during April to continue helping with the effort. 851
