With five weeks remaining in the college football season, the College Football Playoff selection committee unveiled the first poll, and there is little surprise at who is at the top. Alabama, the defending national champs, was ranked No. 1 in the poll released Tuesday, followed by the 2017 champs No. 2-ranked Clemson. White House senior adviser Jared Kushner's family real estate group obtained business loans after Kushner met with the company heads in his official government capacity, The New York Times reported Wednesday.According to the Times, Kushner met with Joshua Harris, one of the founders of Apollo Global Management, on multiple occasions while advising the Trump administration on infrastructure policy, three people familiar with the meetings said.The topic of a job at the White House was also brought up, though never materialized. When 4-year-old Mateo forgot his favorite toy, Bear, in San Diego during a recent trip, employees of a local hotel made sure Bear had a good time in America’s Finest City.Mateo and his parents visited San Diego earlier this month. They didn’t realize they left Bear in their hotel room at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay. Employees were able to find Bear, but made sure he enjoyed his extended vacation in San Diego before sending him back to Los Angeles. Bear enjoyed the hotel pool and water slide, lunch, and the spa before his trip back home. With businesses around the country reopening, customers may notice an additional expense on their bill: a COVID-19 surcharge. This new surcharge is popping up around the country and is an extra fee that businesses can add to a bill to help alleviate the financial burden placed upon them during the virus outbreak. It is meant to help offset losses due to businesses having to temporarily close, or help businesses keep up with the new requirements to reopen under health guidelines.The practice of adding an additional surcharge is legal for businesses although it may feel sneaky to customers without prior notification."Businesses would have to make decisions on their own," Kern County Administrative Officer Ryan Alsop told KERO-TV. "Simply having something on the bill at the end of the night that addresses something like a COVID-19 surcharge, possibly in addition to having signage in the restaurant, maybe something on the menu upfront."Adding a surcharge to the bill isn't the only option to help businesses during this time of reopening. Businesses could choose to raise prices overall.
