SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A showdown is brewing between two San Diego County supervisors about the reopening of the local economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.In a video on his Twitter account, Supervisor Jim Desmond said current California metrics make it impossible for the county to full reopen.During a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Desmond plans to ask the county to not follow the state’s tier system, which determines when more businesses can reopen.Desmond said on Twitter: “San Diego has been backed into a corner. The report, released Thursday by Apartment List, claims that the number of “super commuters,” people who travel more than 90 minutes to work each way, has increased by more than 31 percent since 2005. In the same time frame, the number of Americans working from home has increased by 76 percent, according to the report. Another California city, Stockton, pulled ahead of all other metros in the U.S. with more than 11 percent of its population considered super commuters. While the share of super commuters in San Diego may be modest, some people have decided not to commute at all. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2. According to the county, a water contact closure was issued Saturday for Imperial Beach. The closure was extended north to include the Silver Strand. “Sewage-contaminated runoff in the Tijuana River has been entering the Tijuana Estuary as a result of recent rainfall,” the Department of Environmental Health said.
