LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — A woman was hit and killed by a trolley car in Lemon Grove Wednesday.The woman was hit by a San Diego MTS trolley at about 3:45 p.m. near the Lemon Grove Avenue and Massachusetts Ave. stop, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies say the woman was dragged by the trolley and later died.The cause of the deadly crash was under investigation.The MTS Orange Line was closed between the Encanto/62nd and Spring Street Stations due to the police investigation. Buses will be used between the two stations to bridge travelers to their next stop during the closure, MTS tweeted. MTS says the eastbound Orange Line will not depart from the Courthouse Station at 5 p.m., and instead will start from 12th and Imperial at 5:11 p.m. Riders waiting to catch that train should instead take the Blue Line to 12th and Imperial to transfer to the Orange Line to continue eastbound.No further information was immediately available. 968

(KGTV) - A man went on a towering mission up a pole, a day after vandals left their mark at an American Legion post in La Mesa, including the burning of a flag.Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, a burning American flag was recorded being hoisted up a pole at American Legion Post 282. Before the night would end, vandals would also tag walls and shatter windows there. But it was the image of the burning flag that sent Cory into action after he saw the video Sunday morning."Really got me sad and upset at the same time," said Cory.A short time later, Cory was spotted on a flag pole outside the American Legion post, after a drive from his home in Lakeside. The CrossFit enthusiast making that 60-foot climb, quickly."My wife said, 'It was the look in my eye. Something I had to do,'" said Cory.After shooting to the top, Cory would thread a new rope he brought along, before going back down and hanging the new flag, an extra one he had been storing in his home. Cory isn't in the military but has family and friends who have served."Everyone has a right to protest, but I think it went too far when they disrespected the flag," said Cory.A short time later, Post Commander Jack Porath heard about Cory's lofty feat."I could not have been more proud of someone doing that," said Porath.For Porath, his emotional compass did a complete 180. After a night of heartbreak caused by the vandalism, he discovered some newfound optimism. In the middle of our interview with Cory, Porath phoned in. They spoke for the first time."What you did was wonderful and courageous. My hat is off to you," said Porath."Just me doing my part. We appreciate what you and other veterans have done. Just a small thing we can do to show that," answered Cory. (KGTV) -- Crews were able to stop an eight-acre brush fire in Lakeside Sunday afternoon.According to Cal Fire, the fire broke out on the 14000 block of El Monte Road around 2:30 p.m. The fire burned in a river bottom and scorched eight acres. By about 3:45 p.m., the forward spread had been completely stopped, the agency tweeted.No structures were threatened and no injuries reported. 420

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — In the era of the "Me Too" movement and against a backdrop of sexual misconduct in the school district, a YouTube video has some wondering whether a candidate for the Board of Trustees is sending the wrong message on social media. Her video is called "How to Be Sexy."It's been viewed more than a million times, but now it's getting serious scrutiny as the self-described non-traditional candidate is running for school board trustee. Watch the full interview with Danielle Ford in the video player at the end of this story."I initially searched for the videos because I started hearing other employees discussing it and saying they were kind of concerned," said Elena Rodriguez, CCSD Student Services Division. Elena Rodriguez has worked for the district for decades. She's an outspoken advocate for change and accountability and regularly attends and speaks at school board meetings."As difficult as it is for women to climb the ladder of administration and so forth, and the issues that we've had in the past with employees being accused of sexual harassment and discrimination and so forth, I think it sends the wrong message," Rodriguez said.Danielle Ford isn't shying away from her videos, but she does want to explain them. "As far as that particular video and the messaging of sexiness, I very much believe in empowering women to love their bodies and to be proud of who they are."Danielle dropped out of high school when she became pregnant at age 17 and got her G.E.D. She says this video and others posted on her Young Moms Club website are designed to reach out to other teen moms who face the same stigma and challenges she did when she was a CCSD student.Getting that message out is a serious effort for Ford. Drawing from her own personal experience she takes on the meaning of teen motherhood in the TedX talk from 2013."If we can offer support and encouragement to these girls rather than criticism and judgment, then we can all positively affect the lives of over 10 million people."Drawing from her marketing experience, Danielle says she has to be creative to ensure teen moms get her message. "And although I wouldn't use that same tagline and picture if I'm talking to different people, it worked!  Because that video itself has over a million views.  And it brought you here," Ford added.Danielle's message to feel confident and powerful at any age as a woman is strong. But the context of that video ("How to Be Sexy") is how to get and keep a man. Some are questioning if that's a good message to send to young girls. According to Ford, "Girls do want that! We all do! We all want a partner."Though she posted these videos years before knowing she'd run for public office, she stands behind them all. Including a video entitled "Why I Let My 10-Year-Old Daughter Date." But as you'll hear in the video below, that "date" was really just a family outing to Chuck E. Cheese.Ford said, "I feel like it's a really good thing to teach her now what a date is and how to be treated by boys."She also has a video on "How to Get a Boyfriend... It's Seriously Just Like Shopping.""When you watch the videos, the common theme is that we need to empower kids instead of criticizing them for having thoughts or whatever it is," Ford added.But Rodriguez says there's a better way to empower young women. "For example, towards education--higher education--technical schools. There are many other ways to empower women versus just talking about how you can be sexy."Long-time Trustee Carolyn Edwards, who's terming out of the spot Ford is running for, says trustees must live up to a higher standard and that includes social media.Regarding her "How to Be Sexy" video, Danielle told us, "I wouldn't make that video--based on what I've heard--again, but I'm also not going to take it down."In fact, she's got a link to her Young Moms Club videos on her candidate website. LAKE HODGES (KGTV) - A San Diego woman tells 10News she was bit by a tick at Lake Hodges and diagnosed with Lyme disease a month later. Sheila Greer has hiked Lake Hodges for 33 years she tells 10News, "I've never had an issue." Greer hiked the same trails at the end of June. She says that's when she believes she got bit by a tick, "The trail had bushes coming up that I would have to brush through and something in the back of my mind said, that's a prime area for ticks. But, I discounted it because I've hiked there for 33 years." Greer got diagnosed with Lyme disease a month after the tick bite. Usually, tick bites have a ring around the bite but her's did not. For that reason, she thought it was a spider bite and waited to see a doctor. She tells 10News she struggled with neck pains and unbearable headaches. Greer finally got a Western Blot test which confirmed her diagnosis. The County of San Diego tells 10News, "Lyme disease is rare San Diego County and we have not had a positive tick found in many years." Because Greer thought she had a spider bite, she didn't know to look for a tick to bring to the county for testing. Greer has been seeing a doctor regularly and is now on antibiotics, "I'm taking antibiotics and I'll be taking antibiotics for a minimum of three months, maybe much longer." 1322
