(KGTV) — A South Bay restaurant that has weathered coronavirus restrictions to stay open so far, says it’s now dealing with customers walking out on their bills.Dawn Morgan, of IB Forum Sports Bar & Grill, said the restaurant recently started requiring customers dining in at their temporary patio to place a credit card on hold after a recent string of customers skipping out on their tab.An issue made all the more disheartening after what they’ve gone through to keep their doors open.RELATED: Little Italy parklet, piazza get restaurant capacity up to 85 percent“We had three occur last week. It has been a relatively small percentage based on the amount of customers we serve daily. But for us we're a small business, family-owned and have a strong issue with people stealing, in general,” Morgan wrote in an email.Morgan said IB Forum was forced to layoff a large portion of staff when the pandemic first hit in March, giving out all of their perishable items to staff with the intention of being closed. But then take-out was cleared as an option by county health officials, allowing them to keep some staff.But she added that even on a modified menu, some days felt like the last for the restaurant.“Our push to remain open during some of the toughest days was the handful of employees who continued to come to work and a group of regulars who would call in orders, pick up high dollar gift cards or leave extremely generous tips to help support us,” says Morgan. “We couldn’t have done it without these great people.”RELATED: COVID-19 restrictions crushing coin-operated game industryWhen restaurants were cleared for modified indoor dining in May, the restaurant scrambled to get staff back. Many former employees chose not to return for various reasons.“Some of which included the fear of contracting the virus, the additional 0 a week for unemployment, we couldn’t blame them for not wanting to return,” she said. “We were very lucky to find a new group of employees that have meshed very well with our pre-COVID-19 staff.”With the state again modifying orders to outdoor operations only in July, what appeared to be another blow for IB Forum ended up playing to one of its strengths.“We have been very fortunate we are capable of providing several different outdoor seating arrangements,” says Morgan. “Several years ago, we added an outdoor patio on the parking lot side of the building and had just completed a new front patio just prior to COVID-19.”RELATED: What happens next? Not only a loss in sales but a loss in tips to staff working to make ends meet during the pandemic.“We have worked hard to be in the position we are in, our employees work incredibly hard and it’s disappointing for them to have to call us and report a walkout. Not only are they losing a tip but they also feel responsible for someone else’s poor judgment,” Morgan said.She says the majority of customers haven’t minded the new policy and customers can still pay in cash at the end of their meal. Servers also have been given discretion for patio tables not located in the temporary parking lot seating.“Our biggest takeaways from this whole experience is to continue to be flexible and thankful to be open and thriving," she said. "Throughout all this madness we’ve had such a dedicated staff. It amazes us how well they’ve adapted to constantly changing schedules, changing health orders, wearing face masks, they have been very diligent in reminding customers to also wear their masks and the additional physical footsteps involved in providing outdoor dining in the parking lot." 3802

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office is responding to criticism after she got her hair done inside a San Francisco salon, amid a citywide coronavirus restrictions on salons.A statement from her office acknowledges Pelosi and her staff relied on the information provided by someone at the salon about what was allowed by the new city regulations that went into effect last Friday, according to multiple outlets.The statement came after Fox News shared a video showing Pelosi inside the salon. Fox talked to the salon’s owner, Erica Kious, who told the news outlet, “it was a slap in the face” that Pelosi could go in and “get her stuff done” while the owner and others can’t work.Kious said it was an independent stylist who rents a chair from her."This business offered for the speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business," Pelosi's Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill said in the statement. Well, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center, roughly half of U.S. adults who use YouTube say it’s helped them learn to do new things. And those behind popular how-to videos are making big bucks.For Greg Wickherst, he began his channel to help other dads struggling just like him.   "When I got custody of my daughter, I didn't know how to do her hair,” he says. “I couldn't even do a ponytail, and I didn't want to have her going to school looking like a ragamuffin."  Wickherst’s first few videos went viral and he quickly became known as “The Hair Dad.”But it's not just hair tutorials, YouTube is the go-to platform for people to learn how to do stuff. The key is knowing where to look for them.Buying a used car will not only save you money but also allow you to shop higher-end brands, says Ivan Drury, Edmunds.com’s senior manager of insights. For example, maybe you wanted a new Toyota Camry. Instead, he says, you can save about ,000 and get a 3-year-old Lexus.Because of the bankruptcy of Hertz rental car agency, along with the many cars coming off lease, there are a lot of used vehicles to choose from, says Jeff Huang, who attends auctions as the remarketing sales supervisor at Westlake Financial Services. “A good used car is a real value proposition — and there are definitely deals to be had,” Huang says.Shoppers looking for great bargains will find them in cars older than 7 years, says Mark Holthoff, used car editor at Klipnik, a website for used car enthusiasts. “That’s because the depreciation curve has mostly been flattened,” he says. For example, a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan, costing ,000 new, now sells for about ,000.Shop in the right placeNew cars are sold only by franchised dealers, but used cars can be purchased from a variety of sellers:Used car departments at new-car dealerships.Used car superstores such as CarMax.Online used car sellers such as Carvana, Shift and Vroom.Car rental sales lots.Independent used car lots.Private parties.Public auctions.You’ll typically find the newest and more expensive models at new-car dealers’ used-car lots, the only place to turn if you want a certified car with a warranty and factory financing. You can also get a loan and buy extended warranties. Prices are typically no-haggle.Independent lots, private parties and public auctions typically deal in older or cheaper cars. The upside is that you may find a 20-year-old one-owner cream puff, cheap. It does happen. But most cars have had several previous owners, and a checkered past is not rare. Plus, you’ll have to arrange your own financing.Adjust your expectationsThere is a built-in risk-versus-reward element to used car shopping: The more you’re willing to spend, the less chance the car will need repairs and overdue maintenance. Here’s an overview of the three price levels of used cars:High-end used cars: If your budget is over, say, ,000, you might consider getting a certified pre-owned (CPO) car from a dealer. Shopping for a CPO car is easier because it’s pre-inspected and comes with an included warranty. While you’ll have to pay a premium, you’ll also be able to buy a car with more modern technology and safety features. Of course, you can always buy a non-CPO car and purchase an extended warranty.Midrange used cars: A sweet spot for used car buying is a 3-year-old vehicle coming off a lease. Many of these cars will sell for 40% of their original price and still retain a new-car feel, according to Drury. Another source of near-new bargain-priced vehicles is car rental lots. According to an iSeeCars analysis, Hertz vehicles are selling for an average of ,389 below market value.Older used cars: Many people are afraid that cars from 7 to 15 years old will require costly repairs. But Holthoff points out that new cars can effectively cost the owner ,000 a month in depreciation.“You might have to spend money on a repair, but depreciation is a constant,” he says.To offset repairs, set aside 0 a month so sudden mechanic bills won’t deplete your savings.It’s best to buy older cars from private-party sellers because you can get a better idea of the mechanical condition, Holthoff advises. A used car dealer will show you the vehicle history report, but a private party might have the service records and can answer many other questions.Look for unexpected valueThe used car market is vast and, if you can spot an outlier, you can save big money. Here are a few examples of how to find that diamond in the rough:Cars that haven’t been recently redesigned will sell for less. Check car sites such as Edmunds.com to find out when the last time major changes were made to a model.While there is a stigma to buying a used rental car, the vehicles are well-maintained and priced lower than buying from dealers, Drury says.If a car dealer’s vehicle history report shows you are looking at a former rental car, leave and buy a similar one directly from the rental agency’s sales lot. You’re likely to find it cheaper.Be willing to travel to an area where the car you want is less popular. For example, all-wheel-drive vehicles sell for less in the southern U.S., where winter driving isn’t a factor.Be willing to travel to a more competitive market. A Honda dealer with a city to itself has less pressure to dicker on a CPO vehicle than a dealer in a city with three or four rivals.Used luxury cars often offer the biggest savings, according to Holthoff.
