BRUSSELS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met Thursday with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on bilateral ties, vowing to enhance cooperation between the two sides.     Xi, who congratulated Barroso for his reelection, said China appreciated his efforts in the past five years on boosting development of the comprehensive and strategic partnership between China and the European Union. China believes, too, that the bilateral ties would advance further in a healthy and stable way within the new term of Barroso, Xi said.     Xi said China and the EU, who have formed a pattern of comprehensive, wide-range and multilevel cooperation, have become two important forces to help shape the future international structure into a multipolar world.     Xi put forward a three-point proposal to further strengthen bilateral relations between China and the EU. Xi said that to promote the growth of China and the EU's comprehensive and strategic partnership accords with the common interests of both sides and is a right choice benefiting the peoples of China and the EU and the international community as a whole.     Second, to always adhere to the belief of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. The two sides should mull over tangible ways to properly handle disagreements, to foster new cooperation and to firmly stem the torrent of trade and investment protectionism, Xi said.     Third, to always adhere to the principle of equality and mutualtrust. The Sino-EU relations will remove various obstacles and make progress as long as both sides stick to the principle of "mutual respect and mutual trust, consultation on an equal footing, and seeking common ground while shelving differences," Xi said. It will also be important to bear in mind the overall interests of bilateral relations and respect each other's major concerns, Xi said.     China is ready to work with the EU to build Sino-EU relations into a model of peaceful coexistence and friendly exchanges between countries that transcend civilizations, social systems and development models, Xi said.     Barroso offered congratulations on the success of China's impressive National Day celebrations on October 1, speaking highly of the great achievements of China in the last 60 years.     Sino-EU relations have seen remarkable achievements, he said, adding that the past five years have witnessed frequent top-level exchanges, fruitful personnel and cultural exchanges, and rapid development of economic and trade cooperation.     China and the EU have seen increasing common ground on global issues, including the international financial crisis and climate change, and both sides oppose protectionism and champion a just international order, Barroso said.     In the next five years, the EU will continue developing and promoting the EU and China's comprehensive and strategic partnership and strive to handle disagreements in a mature and responsible spirit so as to further develop bilateral ties, he said.     Barroso also wished the forthcoming Europalia Chinese Art Festival a great success.     Xi arrived here Wednesday for an official visit to Belgium, the first leg of his five-nation European tour. He will also visit Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.  

HANOI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee General Secretary Nong Duc Manh met with a Communist Party of China (CPC) delegation here on Friday.     The Chinese delegation is headed by He Yong, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and deputy secretary of CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.     During the meeting, Manh said Vietnamese party, government and people treasure the friendship with China. He said developing the Vietnam-China friendly relations serves the common interests and aspirations of the two peoples.     Manh said Vietnam would like to work together with China to enhance support for each other, deepen friendly cooperation of the two parties and two countries, and advance the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a healthy and steady manner.     Manh said Vietnam is pleased to see that China has overcome various difficulties and challenges brought by the global financial crisis and achieved stable and relatively fast economic growth. Vietnam would like to share with China the experiences of dealing with global financial crisis as well as those of the reform and open-up causes.     For his part, He said in the past few years, China and Vietnam have seen frequent visits of high-level officials, strengthened mutual political trust, great outcomes on economic and trade cooperation and deepened exchanges of experiences in governing the party and the nation.     He said the two parties have also witnessed increased exchanges and cooperation in discipline inspection and fighting corruption.     He said China and Vietnam will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of diplomatic ties next year and at the same time embrace the Year of Friendship. He said China would like to work together with Vietnam to take this opportunity to enrich bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, further strengthen strategic mutual trust, deepen cooperation of mutual benefits, promote common development and push forward the relations of the two parties and two countries to a new stage.     He conveyed the greetings and best wishes from Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President to Manh.     Manh asked He to pass his best wishes to Hu. He congratulated China on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China which is to fall on October 1. BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)plans to launch the third stage of its current campaign to deepen the study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development, the kernel ideology of the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as the general secretary.     The third stage, which starts in September and ends in February2010, is designed to carry out at grassroots level, involving 1.22million Party organizations and 37.5 million Party members, accounting for 32.8 percent and 50 percent of the total numbers, respectively.     These were remarked by Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, at Friday's meeting here to summarize the experience of the second-stage of the CPC's educational drive and usher in the third stage.     The campaign was initiated by the CPC Central Committee in September 2008, with a goal to promote the study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development in the whole Party. The first and second stages were conducted at higher-level Party committees.     The third stage will mainly involve Party organizations of townships, communities, villages, residential blocks, secondary schools, middle and elementary schools, hospitals, private companies, and non-government organizations, according to Xi, who is also a Secretariat member of the CPC Central Committee and head of the CPC Central Committee's leading group for the campaign.     He urged Party organizations at different levels to make substantial efforts to help "the massive Party members have a deeper understanding of the Scientific Outlook on Development."     Third stage will be focused on resolving critical problems concerning the interests of the masses and it should be integrated with the celebration of the 60th founding anniversary of the People's Republic, Xi said.

BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government supports UN's leading role in promoting international cooperation to curb climate change, Premier Wen Jiabao said here Friday.     Wen made the remarks while meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who arrived here Thursday evening for a four-day visit. Calling the United Nations a core player of the international system, Wen said the organization has played an important role in settling major international and regional issues as well as global challenges.
