SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) made changes making it easier for businesses to sell alcohol.This week, the agency made major changes allowing restaurants to sell beer, wine and pre-mixed drinks or cocktails for pick-up or delivery as long as it is sold with food and has a secured top.While the changes will help many business owners, some San Diego bar owners say the ABC needs to take a look at other parts of the law as well."I know my seven employees are hurting, and I am too," said Tony Raso of Bar Sin Nombre.Raso said when the statewide order came down to close, he did. He has bar food he can sell, but where his problem comes in is with the beer that's already on tap."My struggle has been with all of the draft beer," he said. "We're primarily a draft house, and most of my money is in draft inventory."According to the ABC's website, restaurants "selling beer, wine, and pre-mixed drinks or cocktails for consumption off the licensed premises may do so when sold in conjunction with meals prepared for pick-up or delivery. Any such alcoholic beverages must be packaged in a container with a secure lid or cap and in a manner designed to prevent consumption without removal of the lid or cap."Raso said while he appreciates the relaxed restrictions, he's still sitting on at least ,000 in kegs he can't sell."Allow us to repackage the beer from the taps," Raso said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The first of its kind "Pass the Torch" ceremony Saturday honored veterans and the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Midway, aboard the USS Midway.The ceremony acknowledged as time goes on, less veterans are able to tell their stories. This was the opportunity to share those incredible moments from the battle that turned the tide in WWII.Doctor Charles Monroe served during the battle and said this was the most challenging moment he faced, "One Jap Zero was above, I looked back and looked up and pulled my gun up to try and shoot him and the turret stopped working and the gun stopped working, so I prayed. I wasn't a Christian, but I prayed and said ,'Lord get me out of this mess and I'll go to church,' and I kept my word."Monroe was paired with Paige Dominguez, 26, who is enlisting as a hospital corpsman. Dan King told reporters, "I just want to give perspective on what it's like to be a firefighter and to have cancer. Unfortunately, that's me. Two years ago today. I was in the middle of chemotherapy and radiation; pretty extensive treatment. For me, the treatment was very long and very painful."His remarks were during a news conference about a fund-raiser to upgrade the equipment at Firehouse 21 in Pacific Beach Tuesday.Imagine the health risks — every day."Firefighters can experience a lifetime of environmental exposures in a compressed period of time. It may happen at just one fire or, in many cases, chronic exposure over the course of a long career," Firefighter Kurtis Bennett, part of The Cancer Awareness and Prevention Program, said. To fight that the Pacific Beach Town Council wants to raise ,000 to augment city funding.San Diego City Council leader for District 2, Lorie Zapf, told the crowd, "I wish we had more revenue, more money so we could take care of all these equipment needs."Firehouse 21 would benefit directly.
