CAYCE, S.C. — Authorities in South Carolina say a 6-year-old girl who disappeared from her front yard after school was strangled by a neighbor who then killed himself. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher told reporters Tuesday that Faye Marie Swetlik died from asphyxiation just a few hours after she was abducted on Feb. 10. On Feb. 13, Swetlik’s body was found in the woods nearby moments before 30-year-old neighbor Coty Scott Taylor was found dead in his home.Investigators also found clues about her disappearance in Taylor's trash can. Fisher said that investigators determined Swetlik’s death didn’t occur at the location where her body was discovered and her body had only been at that location for a short time, 738

Despite expanded netting at Minute Maid Park in Houston, a foul ball that was lined off the bat of Chicago Cubs hitter Albert Almora struck a toddler sitting down the left field line on Wednesday. Almora, a 25-year-old Florida native who is in his fourth year as a Cubs outfielder, dropped to his knees in grief as soon as the ball left his bat. The child was carried away to receive medical attention. According to MLB.com reporter Brian McTaggart, Almora went to a security guard to find out the child's condition. He then shared a hug with the guard and multiple teammates. Sportstalk 790 in Houston reported that the child is expected to be okay. 663

Carl's Jr. is testing out a cannabis burger to stay at the forefront of the CBD trend. The chain said on Wednesday that it will sell the Rocky Mountain High: CheeseBurger Delight burger at one location in Denver, Colorado for just one day (April 20th, of course). The burger features a sauce infused with CBD, or cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive hemp derivative.Though the promotion is limited, it's not a stunt. The burger chain is using the test to determine whether a CBD burger belongs on its permanent menu, said Patty Trevino, senior vice president of brand marketing for Carl's Jr."It is something that feels right for the brand," she told CNN Business. "We are all about innovation."Food, beverage and other consumer goods companies have been trying to figure out how to capitalize on growing interest in ingredients like CBD. Consumers are increasingly seeking products that offer an extra something, like increased energy or better gut health. CBD may fit the bill: Some studies suggest the CBD can help treat inflammation, pain, anxiety and seizures. Carl's Jr. isn't promoting any possible functional benefits of CBD, Trevino said.Carl's Jr. is hoping to please their customers, whom Trevino said tend to be interested in new trends. It's also chasing "future Carl's Jr. customers that are younger," said Trevino. "They are more open to different flavors of products," as well as benefits trendy ingredients may offer. The chain first decided to explore CBD in January, after introducing a 1511

Chloe Na says she studied every day for several hours ahead of the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee.“Trying to be well-rounded and make it through the dictionary,” she says of her strategy during the competition. One word the 12-year-old girl from Valencia, California is already familiar with: perseverance. When Na was in D.C., she received some heartbreaking news. Her grandfather, one of her biggest fans, died from a heart condition.“I think he would be proud,” she says. “He was always there to support us for every spelling bee.”Na’s mother, Denise, says the family decided to stay and compete, because they know that’s what Na’s grandfather would have wanted.“He was very excited. He would text me, call me, when we were taking about the Spelling Bee, so I’m happy he got the good news,” Denise Na says. While Na did not end up making it to the finals, she’s proud of what she accomplished and happy the pressure is off. Until next year that is.“I’m gonna practice again in a few months,” Na says. “I’m not gonna start right now, and I’m gonna try to do the nationals next year.”It’s an outlook she hopes will make her grandfather proud. 1157

CHICAGO (AP) — Singer R Kelly has cited the novel coronavirus in asking a federal judge to free him from a federal jail in Chicago as he awaits trial on child pornography and other charges. A Thursday court filing by his lawyers claims scant precautions to stem the spread of the virus behind bars put Kelly's life at risk. The filing in U.S. District Court in Chicago says sanitizer and even soap is hard to come by in the Metropolitan Correctional Center, with most of its 700 inmates held in small, two-man cells that make the kind of social distancing called for to thwart the transmission of COVID-19 impossible. It says the visiting floor has sanitizer, but a sign next to the single bottle available says, “STAFF ONLY;” and a bathroom on the same floor often has no soap. 790
