ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday made a five-point proposal on boosting ties with Greece during talks with his Greek counterpart George Papandreou, stressing that China is willing to work with the European country to combat the lingering financial crisis.Wen arrived in Athens earlier in the day, starting a three-day official visit to the country, the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years.Papandreou held a grand welcoming ceremony for Wen after the Chinese premier's arrival.Wen said both countries were great civilizations in the history and the people of the two countries have always been amicable to each other. BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday called for the country's citizens to actively participate in and cooperate with the sixth national census that starts on Nov.1.Li made the remarks in a pep talk through national TV and radio broadcast for the census on Thursday, saying that the upcoming census was a major event as the Chinese population and its structure and flow had greatly changed since 2000 when the fifth census was conducted.China, the world's most populous country, conducts national census every ten years to collect basic information for making economic and social policies.Every citizen has the obligation to participate in the national census and cooperate with the enumerators coming to their homes to make the statistics more accurate, Li said, adding that personal information collected in the census will be kept as confidential data.

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's primary energy consumption will be kept to between 4 to 4.2 billion tonnes of standard coal by 2015, Jiang Bing, director of the development and planning department of the National Energy Administration (NEA), said on Saturday.Jiang made the remarks at a forum held by the energy research institute of the State Grid Corporation of China.Primary energy refers to existing natural energy which does not need processing, such as fossil fuels, nuclear fuels, biomass energy, hydropower, wind power, solar power and others.As China has adopted a low-carbon development strategy, the country plans to raise the non-fossil energies ratio in its total primary energy consumption to 15 percent by 2020, and carbon dioxide emissions per GDP would be reduced by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels, Jiang said.Thus, primary energy consumption must be kept to below 4.2 billion tonnes in the next five-year plan (2011-2015) to achieve the two targets, Jiang said.China's per capita energy consumption now stands at 2.5 tonnes standard coal per capita and, if left uncontrolled, China might see its energy consumption top 7 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2030, Jiang said.However, he explained that despite the huge total amounts, the per capita energy consumption would only be equivalent to current levels in Japan.Thus, the nation's economic growth mode transformation is quite necessary and it would be a strategic choice for China to control its total energy consumption in the 15 years, Jiang said.China's primary energy consumption topped 3.07 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2009, up 30 percent from 2005, according to the NEA.

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Wednesday held phone talks with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Faye Locke and Trade Representative Ron Kirk to discuss expansion of China-U.S trade cooperation.Wang and Locke, who is also co-chair of the China-U.S Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT), agreed to enhance the exchange of opinions between two countries and expansion of bilateral cooperation, to ensure the upcoming 21st JCCT would be able to make positive achievements, and contribute to promoting sound and stable development of the China-U.S relationship.The JCCT was established in 1983 as a platform for the two countries to promote trade relations and address issues of mutual concern. The 20th JCCT was held in east China's Hangzhou City on Oct. 28-29, 2009.
