(KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection closed three lanes of traffic heading into the United States from Mexico Tuesday morning.In a statement, CBP said it was “to install and pre-position port hardening infrastructure equipment in preparation for the migrant caravan.”One lane of traffic was also closed at the Otay Mesa port of entry.It comes as active-duty troops have been working to add barricades and fencing as part of “Operation Secure Line.”On Tuesday, troops could be seen moving barriers covered with barbed wire along the border, periodically closing the southbound lanes into Mexico.In their statement, CBP officials warned “persons traveling northbound to the U.S. anticipate possible increased wait times because of the lane closures.”Even before the lanes were closed, wait times of six to seven hours had been reported at peak times in the standard lanes. Part of that was due to traffic control by authorities on the Mexican side.Travel as a pedestrian, however, has not appeared to be affected.Rebecca Fodor walked across Tuesday night and said it only took a few minutes. She said she did notice armed troops in camouflage uniforms.“It didn’t really change anything. I think they were just watching for anything suspicious,” she said.The lane closures will remain in effect indefinitely. (KGTV) - Surveillace video shows thieves stuffing a car after breaking into a popular Santee restaurant hit hard by the pandemic and a recent tragedy.Every time restaurant owner Maria Dellarsina looks at the surveillance video she gets anxious."All kinds of emotions. I feel angry, and I feel sad," said Dellarsina.The roller coaster of emotions began after a Thanksgiving morning break-in. The 43-year old Jimmy's Restaurant of Santee was ransacked by thieves. The HVAC access on the roof is the likely entry point.Video shows three people stuffing items into their car, as they helped themselves to whatever they wanted."They took food, liquor, checks, cash, laptop computer, and sports memorabilia," said Dellarsina.The items stolen were just part of the loss. The thieves also cut the power and left the refrigerators open, so all the food had to be tossed."When I saw food going into the trash is when I broke down," said Dellarsina.The total loss more than ,000.The restaurant had to be shut down for a few days, including the day after Thanksgiving, their busiest day of the year."One thing after another ... devastation," said Dellarsina.Beginning in March, restaurant was shut down for months during the pandemic. In May, her husband and co-owner John, passed away from lung cancer."I didn't know if I wanted to open again. We did it. I got my strength back to continue his legacy, but it's hard on us.So far, the pandemic has slashed revenues by more than 60%. Scientists are tracking an object heading toward earth that could enter the planet’s orbit, and they are not entirely sure what it is.The object, named Asteroid 2020 SO, is believed to be man made and not a piece of moon or other planetary debris."I suspect this newly discovered object 2020 SO to be an old rocket booster because it is following an orbit about the Sun that is extremely similar to Earth's, nearly circular, in the same plane, and only slightly farther away (than) the Sun at its farthest point," Dr. Paul Chodas, the director of NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, told CNN."That's precisely the kind of orbit that a rocket stage separated from a lunar mission would follow, once it passes by the Moon and escapes into orbit about the Sun. It's unlikely that an asteroid could have evolved into an orbit like this, but not impossible,” Dr. Chodas continued.Other publications believe the object could be from Surveyor 2, which was launched in September 1966.Scientists are estimating 2020 SO will enter earth’s orbit in November 2020, then pass by earth at a distance of roughly 30,000 miles in December, before heading back out to space in early 2021.For perspective, commercial planes fly at an altitude of about 7 miles on average.There is no danger to earth posed by 2020 SO, but its slow speed and relatively close pass-by, means scientists can study it. SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. — Authorities are asking people to be on alert after a man in a white SUV attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl in San Tan Valley, Arizona on Wednesday. According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 4 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was walking with a friend near a park in the North Pecan Creek neighborhood when a man driving a white SUV pulled up next to them.The man reportedly told the girl that her brothers were in a serious accident and that she needed to go with him. The girl then asked the man what the "code word" was, but the man did not know and drove off."Kudos to the parents of this child for having a code word and talking about to their children about stranger danger," said Sheriff Mark Lamb. "We hope by putting this out, it will encourage parents to have that conversation and create a plan with their children, so they know what to do if they are in that situation."The SUV has been reportedly seen circling the park several times a day, according to children who live in the neighborhood. “This is generally what I consider a pretty safe area, I’ve never heard of anything bad,” said Patrick McDonald, who lives nearby.“This one time, it saved my daughters life,” said Brenda James, the girl’s mother.James talked to KNXV and the media so that other parents could learn about code words as she did.“We actually just came up that few months ago. So it was something really recent from a story that I read,” James said.The man is described as being possibly in his 40s with a short beard. SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California say a 70-year-old man has died in one of the three giant wildfires burning around the San Francisco Bay Area. The man had been reported missing and authorities used a helicopter to reach the location where they found him in the rural community of Last Chance in Santa Cruz County. The area was under an evacuation order and Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Chris Clark said it was a stark reminder of the need for residents to leave the area. The fatality was the seventh fire death in the state in the last week that has seen 650 wildfires across California, many of them sparked by lightning strikes. 693
