Dean Riggott says he watched as his wife Karen fell off a Bird scooter, her head crashing into the pavement. "She hit the back of her head with such force and ferocity, that scooter threw her with such force, that she only hit the back of her head, and broke the bones all the way around the side of her face to the front of her eyes, above her eyes," said Dean.Doctors told Dean to expect the worse, that she would likely not survive the head trauma."I cry literally every morning, every morning."But Dean says his wife is a force of nature and is now defying the odds."She can open her eyes, and she can even smile if you let her know you're in the room, and you're here for her."Karen has some movement in her arms and legs but still cannot support herself. "Unfortunately the families who's lives have been damaged by these scooters, it's going to be a reminder and a remainder in their life for a long, long time," said Dean. While Dean's focus is on his wife's recovery, he can't help but warn others about the dangers of scooters."It's pretty simple. When people are dying, something is wrong."He's reached out to all nine city council members asking for help; so far only three have responded to his pleas for action against scooter companies. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for the suspect who reportedly robbed a Subway in San Diego’s Corridor neighborhood at gunpoint early Sunday morning. According to police, the robbery happened on the 3300 block of University Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday. Police say the man walked into the shop, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded cash. After the employee handed the suspect an unknown amount of cash, the man fled the scene. On Wednesday, Fashion Valley will announce a project to add what it describes as inviting public spaces, enriched landscaping, broader dining and gathering places, tranquil outdoor lounges and water features, and increased personal shopping and valet services. It's the mall's biggest project since it added a second story in the mid-1990s. The tethered drone doesn't require an FAA certificate, unlike untethered drones, Lee said.The tether is virtually invisible, three millimeters wide, but don't let that fool you. It is reinforced with Kevlar, a material most commonly associated with bullet-proof vests. The tiny chord serves two purposes, to provide power and send back information. "There's no wireless transmission, no way anyone can intercept it and there's no one who can take control of the drone," Lee said that makes it very appealing to agencies like police and Customs and Border Protection. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials say more than 80 people are currently being monitored for coronavirus symptoms in San Diego County, as the first flight of quarantine passengers from a cruise ship arrived at MCAS Miramar Tuesday. A group consisting of between 50-60 people arrived at MCAS Miramar just before 10 p.m. Tuesday for a 14-day quarantine. The passengers had been aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that was brought to Oakland.All passengers have been screened and showed no symptoms, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, adding that about 400 more passengers were expected to arrive at Miramar on Wednesday.The cruise ship reported at least 20 people infected with coronavirus aboard the ship, before it was directed to dock in Oakland after spending about a week awaiting orders off California's coast.RELATED: San Diego County woman tests positive for coronavirus following overseas travelAbout 900 California residents who were aboard the ship will be repatriated through MCAS Miramar and Travis Air Force Base in Northern California, according to Wooten. Charles Dockery said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is leading the local quarantine effort on the base."As with the previous mission, all passengers entering quarantine will have been deemed asymptomatic by health care professionals. Finally, any person that tests positive for COVID-19 will be transferred off-station," Col.
