SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Photos captured along the shores of San Diego show the return of a bioluminescent glow cause by a phenomenon known as the red tide. Pictures posted on social media show the eerie neon glow. According to several San Diego photographers who captured the phenomenon, the bioluminescence was captured along the shores of La Jolla and Torrey Pines State Beach Wednesday night. The glow is created by an algae bloom called the red tide. The algae bloom is filled with phytoplankton called "dinoflagellates.” The organisms react with bioluminescence when jostled by the moving water. "Where the wave crashes onto the shore, as it rolls over that’s where the turbulence is highest," said Clarissa Anderson at The Scripps Instutition of Oceanography. "That’s why those are really bright stripes of light. We don’t know the exact smoking gun yet. It’s unclear exactly how long this year’s red tide will last; however, an algae bloom in September of 2013 lasted a week and a bloom in October of 2011 lasted a month, researchers say.According to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the red color of the tide is due to the high number of organisms in the water. 1389

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 32 years after a double murder in Ramona, the suspected shooter has been arrested.San Diego Sheriff's Department says the deadly shooting occurred just before midnight on June 7, 1987, at a Ramona apartment on B Street, just behind Main St. Witnesses told deputies a family was having a birthday party for their four-year-old daughter when one of the guests, 27-year-old Jose Angel Solorio, got into an argument with several people.Solorio left the party angry but returned to the apartment with a gun and shot three men, identified as German Aviles, Ventura Aviles, and Carlos Holgin. German and Ventura Aviles did not survive the shooting.RELATED: 35-year-old cold case murder linked to San Diego manAfter the shooting, deputies learned that Solorio had fled to Mexico.It wasn't until April 2002 when Solorio appeared back on the radar for authorities. Homicide detectives located a family member in Texas who said she had contact with Solorio about two years prior and he was still in Mexico.FBI and U.S. Marshals Service continued working the case and in March 2019, Solorio was finally located and detained in Mexico.Friday, Solorio was extradited to San Diego and jailed on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Normal Heights will become the testing ground for 7-Eleven's newest store strategy aimed at young consumers.The company will open a location of its "Evolution Store" concept at 3504 El Cajon Blvd. "in the next month or so," a company spokesperson told 10News.The store, geared to have a millennial appeal, will offer consumers options like made-to-order coffee and smoothie drinks, kombucha and cold brew on tap, and self-serve frozen yogurt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Multiple former students of San Diego's Christian Youth Theater, known as CYT, are coming forward with stories of sexual assault, abuse and misconduct.On the phone Tuesday, the president of CYT confirmed that one of her own close family members claims that he was even abused when he was in CYT many years ago.On its Facebook page, the El Cajon-based theater group has acknowledged recent accusations of sex abuse from former students.Part of its statement reads, “We are deeply saddened to learn about statements that have recently been made on social media involving former CYT students, and we want you to know that we take these allegations very seriously…We have been working tirelessly on these issues with the authorities, outside consultants, staff, and the Board of Directors since they were brought to our attention…"San Diego attorney Jessica Pride said Tuesday that she's representing a former student who claims she was sexually abused starting in 2006. “The first time she was 13 and it continued until she was 15-years-old,” said Pride.The after-school theater arts training program was founded 40 years ago and is for students ranging from 4-years-old to 18-years-old. On its website, CYT writes that its grown to be the largest youth theater program in the nation with branches across the country, training thousands of students a year.Tuesday, CYT President Janie Russell Cox would not confirm the number of alleged victims or whether the accusations of abuse were between just students or students and teachers, but said claims have come from alumni- not current students.Cox confirmed that her close family member publicly posted on social media his own account of abuse from many years ago. Just ask Lemon Grove resident Tiffany Klein, who had to explain to her 3-year-old son Nicholas, why the sky looked so smokey and gloomy over the last week."Ash was falling and the sky was dark, which was odd. So Nicholas asked me what was going on, he didn't quite understand."And when Tiffany told her son about the dangerous fires burning near Alpine, his response was a bit surprising for a young child."He asked if people were getting hurt," said Tiffany. "I told him, as of that time, that no one had gotten hurt, but some people had lost their homes. So he asked me if he could raise money by doing a lemonade stand."Despite being 3-years-old, Nicholas wanted to lend a hand, even if he wasn't quite sure what was going on."I wanted to help the people that lost their homes,"said Nicholas.And how could any parent say no to such a great request."I was mind blown. He said yes mommy, I want to help them find their homes, because he assumed they were lost."So the family went to work building a lemonade stand, and squeezing their own lemons."He had to build his own lemonade stand, and he went out and picked lemons from a lemon tree."By selling lemonade, he hoped to raise 7 dollars."Seven dollars is huge to him and i said OK, let's try to get that goal."Nicholas easily raised the 7 dollars, and a whole lot more."He doesn't understand what he did yet," says his mom.
