SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A suspect accused of stabbing a man multiple times in a San Diego airport parking lot was nabbed at the border this week.San Diego Harbor Police said Alberto Moreno Jauregui, 18, was arrested Monday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in connection with the stabbing that occurred on Oct. 28 in San Diego International Airport's economy parking lot.RELATED: Man stabbed while defending wife during attempted carjacking at San Diego International AirportPolice said Jauregui, armed with a knife, approached a man and woman in the process of loading their vehicle, before grabbing the woman around her neck and demanding the keys to the vehicle. The man intervened, leading to a fight.During the fight, Jauregui stabbed the man multiple times before fleeing the scene, police said.The man was brought to a nearby hospital and treated. The woman was not injured.Jauregui was booked into San Diego County Jail and charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, attempted carjacking and serious bodily injury.Jauregui is being held on no bail and is due in court on Nov. 9. 1112

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego professor is one of 55 people to make up California’s Electoral College for the 2020 election. Peter Bolland is the Chair of the Philosophy and Humanities Department at Southwestern College. He’s been at the school for 30 years and during that time taught Ammar Campa-Najjar, who is the person who selected him to become an elector.California gets 55 electors because of the 53 congressional districts and two senators. Electors are chosen by the party’s nominee who won the popular vote. Campa-Najjar got the most votes for Congress’ 50th District primary election in 2020, making him the person to choose the elector. Sure let's do it,'" said Bolland.Bolland said he’ll be flying to Sacramento on Dec. 14 to cast his vote. That vote, however, can only be for one person."I don’t even have any choice about who to vote for because California, like 48 states, is a winner-take-all state. So Biden won California, I’ll be casting my vote for Biden regardless of what my political views are," said Bolland.He added that he’s honored to be chosen in such a historic role, but acknowledges the flaws in the Electoral College system."Politically, I’ve had my concerns and questions about the Electoral College. It’s fundamentally anti-democratic," he said.The Electoral College was created by our founding fathers in 1787. They wanted to find a balance between giving too much power to the people with a simple popular vote, without giving all of the power to Congress. The Electoral College was their solution.Bolland points out that it makes some votes useless.“Last night, Joe Biden won by like 60 something percent and Trump lost by 30 something percent. Five months later, the entrepreneurs say they are thriving, thanks to their expansion into a chicken coop.Starting a business takes guts. Starting a business during a global pandemic is extremely risky."We built our business around the idea of lockdown and quarantine," IvyMay & Co. co-owner Cody Warden said.RELATED: San Diego couple launches new business during COVID-19 pandemicWarden and girlfriend, Tammy Nguyen, thought if people cannot be outside, they would bring the outdoors to them. That inspired the creation of IvyMay & Co., an online houseplant curating and delivery company.In July, Warden was newly jobless, and Nguyen was working her corporate PR job when they started the company. Since then, Nguyen quit her job, and their business blossomed. They went from having twenty deliveries to now more than 120 in a week. They hired more staff and outgrew their space almost immediately."We needed to figure out a spatial solution so that we can continue to grow," Nguyen said.Their solution was Warden's father's backyard in Encinitas, specifically their chicken coop. Warden and his father renovated the 300 square foot space to have a greenhouse and an office. It is not your typical warehouse, but they say it is perfect."It's like working with what you have and being able to pivot and do whatever it takes to take your business to the next step," Nguyen said.They say it is this kind of ingenuity, a loving family, and loyal customers that keep them focused. Whether they expand to delivery to other counties or build a storefront, only time will tell. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An almost strangled coyote is getting sympathy from Katie Ryan's neighbors in Oaks North in Rancho Bernardo and from online friends."People are just 'Wow! This is phenomenal. Let's get her rescued, let's get her rescued!'" Ryan said.What appears to be 5- or 6-inch length of plastic flex-pipe that might have been discarded is wrapped tightly around the coyote's neck."Little critters try to make a home in there and other wildlife try to bring out a meal and it's obvious she got her head stuck in there and couldn't back it out," Ryan said.RELATED: Man in construction worker disguise suspected in series of San Diego break-insRyan's familiar with this particular coyote; having seen it out and about for years. Many people fear coyotes but she appreciates the wildlife she watches nightly."They're part of the eco-system here; they clean up; this was one of my favorite rat-catchers," Ryan said.She's worried that cuts on the coyote's neck will get infected and poison it; so she and others have been trying to capture the animal.  "Little tidbits of goodies to lead her in this direction and she almost got into a smaller coyote trap," she added.Wednesday night, they set up a larger trap; one that is mountain lion-sized but no success."She stayed ten feet away from the corner; I think she knew, she spotted the difference in the trap. They're very sensitive to change in the environment and when that happens, they run off," Ryan said.Her brainstorming with others now; hoping to get to the coyote in time; somehow."We're hoping we get her and get her some medical help; get her fixed up and put back into nature." 1703

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A young sea otter who was found stranded on a beach and deemed non-releasable has been given a new name. SeaWorld San Diego took in "Nova" the sea otter in March, where she has been thriving with other sea otters in the park's Otter Outlook habitat.Nova was found abandoned without a mother on a beach in Cambria, Calif., in March 2018. Monterey Bay Aquarium took her in and provided her care. There, she was also paired with an adult female otter to act as a surrogate mother.When the aquarium released her back into the wild about a year later, she was rescued once again and deemed non-releasable by the US Fish and Wildlife. Eventually, Nova was taken to SeaWorld, which is one of the few California facilities that rehabilitates and cares for southern otters. While the park is currently closed due to the coronavirus, SeaWorld says it intends to reopen on July 1 with new health guidance. 921
