President Donald Trump said Friday that he didn't "remember much" about the now controversial March 2016 meeting with his foreign policy advisers, including George Papadopoulos. In the clearest connection between the campaign and Russian efforts to meddle in the 2016 election, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about interactions with foreign officials close to the Russian government, according to court documents unsealed this week."I don't remember much about that meeting," Trump said on the South Lawn before leaving for his five-country, 12-day trip in Asia. "It was a very unimportant meeting, took place a long time, don't remember much about it." 677

President Donald Trump said Monday he will make a decision as early as this evening on the US response to what he called an "atrocious" chemical weapons attack on civilians in Syria and warned that he will hold the responsible parties accountable."We cannot allow atrocities like that. Cannot allow it," Trump told reporters on Monday during a Cabinet meeting as he warned that "nothing's off the table." "If it's Russia, if it's Syria, if it's Iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out and we'll know the answers quite soon"Pressed on Russia's role in the suspected chemical weapons attack, Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin -- who backs the Syrian regime -- "may" bear responsibility."He may. And if he does, it's gonna be very tough. Very tough," Trump said of the US response. "Everybody's gonna pay a price. He will and everybody will."The Syrian government and Russia have vehemently denied involvement in the attack and accused rebels in Douma of fabricating the chemical attack claims in order to hinder the army's advances and provoke international military intervention.Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that his country had sent experts to Douma and that there was "no trace" of the use of chemical weapons there.Trump's comments are his first public remarks on the attack, which killed dozens of civilians, since he tweeted about it on Sunday and warned of a "big price to pay" for those responsible. His statement comes almost exactly a year after he fired 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian airbase in response to a chemical weapons attack against civilians.Trump said the US is still working to determine who is directly responsible for the attack, which was widely publicized in recent days after graphic on the ground footage of victims was shown around the world. Trump said his decision could come as early as the end of Monday or within the next 48 hours."I'd like to begin by condemning the heinous attack on innocent Syrians with banned chemical weapons," Trump said. "It was an atrocious attack, it was horrible. You don't see things like that as bad as the news is around the world, you just don't see those images.""We are very concerned, when a thing like that can happen, this is about humanity. We're talking about humanity. And it can't be allowed to happen," he added.Trump expressed frustration at investigators not being able to get immediate answers about who was behind the attack and said the US is working "to get people in there."The attack comes about a week after Trump told military leaders to draw up plans to prepare a withdrawal of the remaining US troops from Syria. Pressed Monday on whether those plans still stand, Trump simply told reporters: "We're gonna make a decision on all of that, in particular Syria, we'll be making that decision very quickly, probably by the end of today."  2884

President Donald Trump reacted on Twitter on Thursday following the FBI's Thursday announcement of charges against 13 men tied to a plot to kidnap Michigan’s Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The men were tied to a militia group planning on overthrowing Michigan’s duly elected government.President Trump tweeted late Thursday that "rather than say thank you" for the work of the FBI, he says Whitmer called him a "white supremacist" before he unloaded on Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and the Democratic party. He ended his three-tweet response with "I do not tolerate ANY extreme violence." 601

President Donald Trump said the government wouldn't continue to pay California over its worsening wildfires if the state didn't "get their act together."While speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said California's wildfires are costing the country billions of dollars. He added that whoever becomes governor in November needs to "better get your act together.""So I say to the governor or whoever is going to be the governor of California you'd better get your act together because California, we're just not going to continue to pay the kind of money that we're paying," Trump said. The president went on to blame the state's worsening fires on forest land, saying California doesn't, "want to clean up their forest because they have environmental problems in cleaning it up.""And here we are with thousands of acres and billions and billions of dollars every year it's the same thing every year," Trump said. "And they don't want to clean up their forest because they have environmental problems in cleaning it up. It should be the opposite. Because you're going to lose your forest you'll lose it."As of August, nine wildfires had scorched an estimated 721,642 acres in the state and has been one of the deadliest, killing six firefighters. 1276

President Donald Trump said Monday he favored efforts by a bipartisan group of lawmakers to create term limits for Congress."I recently had a terrific meeting with a bipartisan group of freshman lawmakers who feel very strongly in favor of Congressional term limits," he tweeted. "I gave them my full support and endorsement for their efforts. #DrainTheSwamp."The group of first-term House members -- both Republican and Democrat -- met with the President on Wednesday to discuss their idea to cap the number of years that members of Congress can serve. It's a common reform proposal made by politicians but has yet to gain much traction.Imposing term limits would require a constitutional amendment, a rare and difficult proposal that would need approval from two-thirds of the House and Senate, or two-thirds of state legislatures at a convention. It would then need to be ratified by the states. While members of the bipartisan group have already introduced bills calling for term limits, Rep. Mike Gallagher, a Republican from Wisconsin, said they plan to merge their bills to create one united effort."We're going to combine our bills together and really try to push the thing. I think that would be a complete, complete paradigm shift," Gallagher said in a Facebook video as he was leaving the White House last week.Other members at the meeting included Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas; Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas; Rep. Ro Khanna, D-California; and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pennsylvania.When running for president, Trump also called for congressional term limits as part of his "drain the swamp" pitch to reform Washington, wanting to limit House members to six years of service, and senators to 12 years. 1736
