SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man involved in a reported domestic violence incident in City Heights early Wednesday morning made his way onto the roof of a building and refused to come down, prompting a standoff with San Diego police.According to SDPD officials, officers responded to a domestic violence-related call at around 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 4100 block of Wilson Avenue. Police say the incident involved a man and his girlfriend, and the man allegedly destroyed a phone line or cell phone. When officers arrived, they spotted the man in the incident and tried to get him to surrender, but he ran away. With police in pursuit, the man climbed onto the roof of a home on 35th Street. Officers surrounded the home, but when police placed a ladder for the man to come down, he grabbed the ladder and pulled it onto the roof with him.The man used the ladder to help him cross onto the roof of a two-story apartment building in the 4000 block of 35th Street. As police negotiators tried to get the man to come down, he reportedly threatened officers with makeshift weapons and threw objects at emergency responders. After nearly 19 hours, the man was taken into custody just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. 1211

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego commuter is saving big by getting on a bike, but not breaking much of a sweat. It was 6 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, when 10News caught up with Jon Taddeo as he prepared to bike to work.  This ride would be powered by a little something extra, in the form of an electric motor. Taddeo bought an electric bike in October."I feel like a fast biker," said Taddeo.Pedaling more will cause the motor to kick in when he needs it.  For Taddeo, it's a big difference compared to riding a pedal bike."17 miles per hour up a hill.  Before it was four or five miles per hour, huffing and puffing," said Taddeo. That means arriving at work less tired and sweaty.  Long popular in Europe and Asia, e-biking has surged in popularity in the U.S. in the past few years.Taddeo's commute from Carmel Valley to Miramar College took about 30 minutes, only a few minutes slower than his average drive."I feel good.  Blood flowing, refreshed and ready to work," said Taddeo. He also feels pretty good about his savings.  Before, he spent about 0 a month on gas for his commute.  That's now down to pennies, basically the cost of charging the motor battery."It'll definitely go a long way. A little for food, and it'll help pay off the rest of my car," said Taddeo. The average cost of an e-bike is in the ,000 range. The City of San Diego has incentives for drivers to switch to a bicycle commute, including secure parking at bike lockers near transit stations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A newly-released poll shows key San Diego County races are undecided ahead of the June 5 primary election. Many of the 1,100 voters questioned in the scientific 10News/Union-Tribune poll showed no clear preference for non-partisan positions including District Attorney, Sheriff, and County Assessor.DISTRICT ATTORNEYSummer Stephan, the interim San Diego County District Attorney, held 35 percent of the vote to Genevieve Jones-Wright’s 22 percent. Stephan led among Republicans, white voters, and those over 35 years old. Jones-Wright led among Democrats, and Latino and younger voters. 43 percent of voters were undecided in the race.Stephan was appointed by the Board of Supervisors last year to fill the remainder for Bonnie Dumanis’ term. Jones-Wright is a Deputy Public Defender. The two have met in several public forums.  SAN DIEGO COUNTY SHERIFFIncumbent Sheriff Bill Gore led Sheriff’s Department commander Dave Meyers by 10 percent in the poll. However, 33 percent of voters were undecided.Gore had stronger support from senior citizens, white voters and conservatives.  COUNTY ASSESSOR/RECORDER/COUNTY CLERKThe countywide election pitting incumbent Ernest Dronenburg Jr. against ethics attorney Matt Strabone shows voters were essentially tied, with a 6.3 percent margin of error. Dronenburg held 20 percent of the vote to Strabone’s 17 percent. An overwhelming 63 percent of voters were undecided.  VOTER BREAKDOWN84 percent of those surveyed said they were registered to vote in California. 14 percent were not, and 2 percent were not sure.About half of San Diegans said they would definitely vote in the June 5 election. About a fourth said they would likely vote. A combined 11 percent said they were unlikely or certain not to vote.According to the Registrar of Voters, 75 percent of those eligible to vote in the county are registered. Of those registered, 37 percent are registered Democrats, 29 percent are registered Republicans and another 29 percent are Independent. As far as voter turnout for the June Primary, over the last 30 years, the highest number of voters to turn out was 40 percent in 1990.  DO POLITICAL PARTIES MAKE A DIFFERENCE?The Survey USA pollsters asked San Diegans if political parties impacted how they planned to vote in the elections. About a third said party affiliation had a lot to do with their decision.   BIG ISSUESAs San Diegans head to the polls, they’ll be weighing different issues. The cost of living and housing affordability topped the list of concerns facing most voters. Crime and homelessness were also in the top five. 2680

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new political attack ad accuses mayoral candidate Barbara Bry of repeatedly falling asleep at public meetings. The ad is from a committee that supports State Assemblyman Todd Gloria. It says San Diego needs a mayor on alert given the coronavirus outbreak, the threat of wildfires, and the homeless crisis. It then cuts to shots of Bry appearing to doze off at two City Council Committee meetings within the last year. The committee, called Neighbors for Housing Solutions Supporting Todd Gloria for San Diego Mayor 2020, is backed by more than a dozen organizations, including the Municipal Employees Association and the Regional Chamber of Commerce. Attorney Gil Cabrera, its principal, is responsible for the ad."If it was a random falling asleep during a 10-hour council meeting, I'm not going to get into that, there's an amusement factor to it but I'm not going to get into it. It's the pattern of it," Cabrera said.Cabrera said Bry regularly dozes off at public meetings, but also said employees who see it fear retaliation for speaking out. Still, the ad raises questions about accuracy. It shows an image of Bry appearing to sleep at a committee meeting on the city's Get it Done app, while the narrator says she fell asleep during a meeting on police reform. "If this ad is talking about a meeting on police reform but showing a picture of Barbara Bry in a very different hearing, one, that plays a bit fast and loose with the truth and two, it makes problems with the ad the story rather than the Barbara Bry falling asleep on the job, which is what the backers of this ad wanted you to think about," said Thad Kousser, political scientists at UC San Diego. Cabrera says he stands by the ad and its accuracy. Bry, meanwhile, fired back Thursday, issuing this statement: 1808

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Point Loma woman said a man took photos of her chest as she was walking into the Ralphs grocery store on Rosecrans Boulevard on Tuesday morning. It was around 9 a.m. when Julie Buerckley noticed a man standing by the entrance and as she got closer she says he began snapping photos on his phone.  "He was taking pictures of me but it wasn't of my whole body, it was just of my chest," said Buerckley.Buerckley told 10News she ran inside to tell someone, but by the time employees came out the man was long gone. She said there's no telling how long he'd been there or who else he'd taken pictures of. "I'm worried about kids getting pictures taken when their parents aren't paying attention and stuff," Buerckley said. "That's what I'm worried about."She described the man as being tall, and wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.  906
