PHOENIX (KNXV/KGTV) - A small plane that crashed on a Phoenix street Monday morning -- killing both passengers  -- was just sold from a pilot in Solana Beach.The victims have been identified as 54 year-old Theodore Rich and 49 year-old Elaine Carpenter. FAA officials said the aircraft involved is a single-engine, home-built Acroduster. The plane went down in the intersection of 7th St. and Deer Valley Dr., near an FBI field office, at around 6:50 a.m. local time.One eyewitness said he saw the plane go down. At first he thought it was aerobatics, but after seeing the plane heading straight for the ground, he knew something was wrong. Video from the scene showed emergency crews working around debris in the roadway near several damaged cars. Police told media on scene the vehicles had substantial damage but no one on the ground was hurt.10News reporter Lauren Davis talked to Avi Maltzman, the Solana Beach man who just sold the plane to Rich this weekend. Maltzman said he flew with Rich for several touch-and-goes and described Rich as an experienced pilot. Maltzman said Rich even called him from Arizona just to let him know he made it home safely. “He impressed me very well with his flight skills. He did good eight or nine landings. He was comfortable and I felt comfortable with him," said Maltzman.Maltzman said the plane was built by professionally in Santa Barbara in 1993. Maltzman bought the plane in 2011 and said it was in great condition. Those who knew Rich said flying was his passion. They said Rich died doing what he loved.    1614

(KGTV) - Dramatic body camera video recorded on the first day of Northern California's Camp Fire shows a Butte County Sheriff's deputy in what he thought would be the final moments of his life. BCSO Deputy Aaron Parmley was driving down Pentz Road in Paradise when his vehicle became disabled due to the firestorm. Parmley got out to run to safety.Fearing that he was about to die, Parmley switched on his body camera to document the situation the morning of Nov. 8.Video shows Parmley walking near a home and down the middle of a road with burning embers surrounding him. Other people, including a nurse and police officer, were walking nearby. Parmley's struggle to breathe in the heavy smoke is apparent.The life-saving moment happened roughly an hour and 14 minutes after Parmley turned on his camera. A bulldozer approached Parmley and the police officer, and both men got inside to be taken to safety.The Camp Fire went on to become the deadliest fire in California history, with 88 fatalities and 196 people missing as of Nov. 29. PETA wants to make sure a bunch of lobsters killed in a vehicle wreck last week in Maine aren't forgotten.The animal rights group, formally known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, sent a letter to the Maine Department of Transportation asking for permission to install a 5-foot tombstone for the deceased crustaceans along a highway in Brunswick.That's where a local seafood distributor's truck -- loaded with about 70 crates of lobsters -- overturned, CNN affiliate WGME reports, spilling thousands of them onto the roadway."It was something I've never seen before," Brunswick police Detective William Moir told the station. "Some lobsters were loose on the ground from being spilled over so we went to work to save the ones we could."The requested memorial would feature a picture of a lobster with the words "In Memory of the lobsters who suffered and died at this spot, August 2018." It would also urge people to "Try Vegan.""Countless sensitive crustaceans experienced an agonizing death when this truck rolled over and their bodies came crashing down onto the highway," PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement.?"PETA hopes to pay tribute to these individuals who didn't want to die with a memorial urging people to help prevent future suffering by keeping lobsters and all other animals off their plates."On Thursday, the state Department of Transportation turned down PETA's request, citing safety concerns.?In a letter?to PETA, Jim Billings, the department's chief counsel, said development and signs of all types are prohibited along controlled-access highways such as US 1."Control-of-access areas may have a very high volume of car and truck traffic as well as a high speed limit that could create a potential hazard to motorists should development and signs be allowed in these sections," Billings wrote.And Ted Talbot, the department's spokesman, also said PETA's plans wouldn't fly because it seemed like the animal rights group was seeking a permanent memorial, and that's not permissible under state law. (KGTV) -- Thursday, the world’s first autonomous robotic kitchen assistant, Flippy, made its debut.Flippy will begin working alongside kitchen staff at CaliBurger’s Pasadena location.Flippy will, of course, be flipping burger patties and removing them from the grill.The robotic arm was created by Miso Robotics, a company that specializes in robotics and artificial intelligence solutions.The company also developed Miso AI, a cloud-connected learning platform that powers the robotic arms.The technology can detect when the raw burger patties are places on the grill and monitors each one as it cooks.Miso AI displays cooking time and alerts staff when it’s time to place the cheese on top of the patty or dress the burger. 755
