(KGTV) -- The Sweetwater Union High School District said Tuesday that it decided to end the employment agreement of Dr. Karen Janney, the district’s superintendent.Janney had been under pressure to step down following a multi-million dollar budget shortfall that prompted an investigation into possible misappropriation of funds.In June of 2020, the board voted 4-1 to place Janney on paid administrative leave.Tuesday afternoon, a district spokesperson wrote to ABC10 News that a new vote happened in a board meeting on Monday night. Video posted by the district only refers to the termination of an employee. Tuesday, the district spokesperson sent ABC10 News the following statement: "The Sweetwater Union High School District Board of Trustees provided Dr. Janney a 90-day notice to end her employment agreement, pursuant to Article 17b of that agreement. On behalf of the entire Sweetwater community, we want to thank Dr. Janney for her many years of service and dedication to the district, its board, and our students."Janney took over as superintendent of the district in 2015. Three years later, the district reported a million budget deficit.Also in June, a report from California’s Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team reported that there was enough evidence that fraud or misappropriation of funds may have occurred within the district. (KGTV) – More than 300 South Bay parents and students attended a school safety forum Monday night.The Sweetwater Union High School District and Chula Vista police held the meeting at Chula Vista High School’s Performing Arts Center.“We certainly had some questions, we pinged our kids on what drills are being done on their campuses,” said Ricky Gallegos, who has two kids that attend high schools in the district.School officials and police assured parents that they practice and prepare for the unthinkable. But police were also candid about their limited resources. They have 10 school resource officers for 61 campuses and more than 51,000 students in Chula Vista.  Police asked parents for their help by reminding them to be involved with their kids and school community and to report whatever doesn't sound right. They also told them about the “P-3 Anonymous Tip App” which was launched within the past year. They said it there have been more than 400 tips made and law enforcement removed 13 guns from San Diego County Schools as a result of the app.“I think it’s petty cool, especially that it’s anonymous because I know some students are worried that they’ll talk to someone else,” Leira Gardea, a sophomore at Chula Vista High School said.Mental health was also a big topic of discussion. The Sweetwater Union High School District says they have 13 therapists and assured parents they do their best to disturbed or troubled youth the help they need.Chula Vista Police is holding another school safety forum next week. (KGTV) - Arson investigators are looking into a fire that damaged a Mexican restaurant in Chula Vista late Thursday evening.The fire at Tacos Y Mariscos Imperial, located on 2490 Main Street, was reported at around 10:15 p.m., according to fire officials at the scene.Firefighters said the blaze started outside and quickly spread to the front of the restaurant.No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 491
