A 3-year-old Mesa, Arizona boy was found crying next to his passed out father near a Mesa business.Mesa police report that on May 11, they responded to a business near Stapley Drive and Baseline Road for a man unconscious outside a business. An employee found 33-year-old David Rodriguez passed out with his 3-year-old son standing next to him, crying. Police woke up Rodriguez, but he reportedly kept dozing off as police were questioning him. He did not know where he was or how he got there. He also could not tell police how old his son was. Police located his car in the parking lot with the keys still in the ignition. They also allegedly found several open beer cans in the vehicle. Rodriguez has been charged with child abuse. 777

(KGTV) -- The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station said Thursday they’ve had to ask people to stop donating after receiving an overwhelming amount of donations for the Holy Fire.According to a post on the station’s Facebook page, the donations have taken up so much space, deputies are running out of room to store the items.A photo shows boxes of snacks piled atop cases of water and Gatorade. Though the department appreciates the donations, they said they plan and prepare for events such as the Holy Fire, “so we are good!”The post went on to thank the community for their support. When they arrive at the border, they'll tell officials they're seeking asylum because of violence in their home countries.RELATED: Hundreds of migrants reach Tijuana, many plan to continue to San Diego borderAbout 300 migrants arrived in Tijuana on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Friday they met with lawyers to learn more about what happens if they come into the United States seeking asylum.President Trump instructed the secretary of homeland security not to let them in. (KGTV) -- The new school year begins Monday morning for the Sweetwater Union High School District, and classes will be very different this time around for students and teachers due to the coronavirus pandemic.Starting Monday, Aug. 3, classes will be taught online, with all students equipped with district-issued computers, laptops or tablets to connect with teachers.SUHSD students will be on a daily block schedule that puts them in three classes per day with 30-45 minutes of virtual face time with teachers. Students’ remaining time will be independent study to complete coursework.District officials said the 2020-21 school year will begin with distance learning through at least Oct. 2. According to the district, the goal is to provide flexibility to begin the school year so adjustments can be made along the way.During the school year, the district plans to evaluate the possibility of a return to in-class instruction on three dates:-- Sept. 21: District will assess whether distance learning will continue after fall break.-- Nov. 30: District will assess whether distance learning will continue into second semester or potentially bring 10% of students back to schools.-- March 1: District will assess whether distance learning will continue through the end of the school year.If in-class instruction is allowed, all schools will have safety protocols in place that will be monitored. 1404

A 13-year-old middle school student from Elkhorn, Nebraska was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of terroristic threats. According to a release, the student made non-specific threats on a national social media gaming website on Wednesday. After he was questioned Wednesday, he made similar non-specific threats again on Thursday on a different social media platform. The student was booked in the Douglas County Youth Center. Because of his age, his name was not released. Elkhorn Public Schools released a statement: "On Wednesday, law enforcement investigated an Elkhorn Valley View Middle School student regarding a nonspecific threat made on a national social media gaming website. Elkhorn Public Schools administration cooperated fully with local law enforcement throughout the investigation.  Elkhorn Public Schools takes all threats seriously, and in this situation, at no time did we feel students were in immediate danger. Parents of the student affected received an email on Wednesday afternoon, informing them of the situation." Captain Wayne Hudson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said deputies will be patrolling schools more closely in upcoming days given the alleged threats. Hudson says law enforcement agencies across the nation are not taking any potential copycat shooting threats lightly and encourage people to report any suspicious activity. "The whole thing of, if you hear something, say something — we need that information. As we saw in Florida, it seems several kids had information," Hudson said. "They knew this individual had made certain comments and certain threats — especially kids.
