SANTEE, Calif. (CNS) - A San Diego County Sheriff's Department employee was behind bars Thursday morning on suspicion of burglary and identity theft, authorities said.Estella Velez, a 54-year-old licensed vocational nurse at the Vista Detention Facility, and her alleged accomplice, 44-year-old Raul Rios, were taken into custody Wednesday, sheriff's Lt. Nancy Blanco said.The pair is suspected of stealing a woman's purse in the 5500 block of Mission Road in Bonsall on July 10, then using the victim's credit card at several locations in North County, Blanco said.Rios and Velez were also seen on video surveillance in two attempted commercial burglaries in the 1700 block of East Vista Way in Vista on July 21 and 23, the lieutenant said.Velez was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee and Rios was booked into San Diego Central Jail, according to jail records. They both face multiple felony counts of burglary, conspiracy and theft.Velez was being held in lieu of 5,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Aug. 14. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - A Santee family believes their loved one was among the four people killed by mysterious blue pills last week. “That’s the biggest thing is, I’m pissed somebody is out there doing this,” said Dan Steele, the stepfather of Casey Force. Force, 39, said goodbye to his mother as she left for work Wednesday night. The next morning, Force’s three sons woke up and found him dead in his bed. Steele said the family hasn’t received an official cause of death, but deputies told him blue pills were found in the bedroom. Force was nine months sober from his alcohol addiction and appeared to be succeeding as a painter. Steele said he didn’t know Force was taking painkillers or where they came from. “It’s tough; it makes me mad that such a thing is out there,” said Steele. “They need to be off the streets, anybody pushing drugs needs to be off the streets.” RELATED: Encinitas mother believes her son died of mysterious blue pillsSteele shared a message for other families in the wake of the drug deaths. “Don't be afraid to talk about it; say something, bring some awareness,” Steele said. “Put it out there, nothing you get off the street is reliable. SCRIPPS RANCH (KGTV): At the top of a trail along Semillon Boulevard and Pomerado Road, right next to a sign that reads, "No Dumping - 00 fine," sits a giant pile of wood chips.It's been there for years, growing and shrinking in size. But right now, people who live nearby say it's as big as they can remember."Yeah, it is a little larger than normal," says Douglas Burns, who lives in a home next to the pile.The wood chips are from trees cut down by maintenance workers in the area. The work is part of the Scripps Ranch Civic Association's maintenance contract with the city. The workers take the leaves to the dump but leave the wood chips behind.Bob Ilko, the President of the SRCA, says it saves money on beautification projects. He says the city doesn't have to pay to haul the wood chips and tree pieces away or buy fresh mulch when they need it for landscaping.The wood chips are used to help with weed control and ground cover across Scripps Ranch."It's natural here, it's generated here, it stays here," says Ilko, adding that there's also an environmental benefit since it keeps all the wood chips out of city landfills.Ilko says the pile is larger than usual right now, but that's because crews have been hard at work clearing away dead and dying trees from the area.And while the wood chips are on city-owned land, that does not mean they're available to the general public."It's city property," says Ilko. "If people take them, it defeats the purpose of keeping the wood chips here to save money."He also says contractors are not allowed to use the area to dump their wood chips.When asked if the pile presents a fire hazard, Ilko told 10News the Fire Department has been out to inspect the area, and they say there is no danger of any spontaneous combustion."It's not mulch, it doesn't heat up and break down like manure or mulch," says Ilko. 1889

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — A man convicted of murder in Honduras was arrested after border agents say he was caught crossing the border with members of a migrant caravan in Tijuana.Miguel Angel Ramirez, 46, was arrested on Nov. 24 around 11 p.m. after he was caught entering the country illegally about a mile east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Two other men traveling with Ramirez were also arrested, one of who had previously been deported, according to CBP.Border agents say Ramirez admitted to being convicted of murder and was released a few months ago. The Honduran Consulate in Los Angeles confirmed he had served 10 years in a Honduras prison for homicide and another 3 years for robbery. He added that he had traveled to the U.S. among the migrant caravan from Honduras, border agents said.RELATED: Mexico's new president could change border policy“It was Border Patrol agents’ effort and valued partnership with the Honduran Consulate in Los Angeles that helped us identify a dangerous convicted felon moving amongst the migrant caravan," San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott said.Ramirez and the two other men, ages 22 and 38, are all Honduran nationals and being held in Department of Homeland Security custody pending deportation proceedings.The arrest was made a day after El Centro border officials say an admitted MS-13 gang member suspected of being in the U.S. illegally was arrested near the Calexico Port of Entry.Border officials said 29-year-old Jose Villalobos-Jobel, of Honduras, told agents he had traveled to the U.S. border within the migrant caravan group as well. (KGTV) — Cameras caught a thief wreaking havoc at an East County business park, culminating in several destructive acts after he realized he was locked in.Scott Trafton has seen the video countless times, but his emotions have yet to lessen."Aggravating and makes me angry," said Trafton, who owns XP Builders.Just before midnight last Thursday night, a truck is seen driving into a business park on Wheatlands Court. The truck, believed to be a Chevy Silverado, is parked in the dark for more than four hours, before a man emerges and heads toward Trafton's general contractor business. In the video, the man grabs items from the truck bed, before prying open a toolbox in the back. A knife at this side, the man would get away with more than a thousand dollars with of Trafton's tools. "It hurts being a small business. Every penny counts," said Trafton.Trafton is not the only victim. The thief left behind a trail of shattered truck windows and missing items."Basically took whatever wasn't bolted down," said Trafton.When the man went to leave, he was met by a gate, locked by someone who had left earlier. The camera spies him apparently chaining his truck to the fence and pulling forward, but he can't get the fence down."He then came over to another truck and broke a window. He then took a moving blanket to protect his truck and drove to another fence," said Trafton.In the video, you can see the flash of his lights, before his final act."He ran into the fence, spread it wide open and knocked it over," said Trafton.The repair bill will tally some ,000.
