BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The FBI is investigating after a piece of rope resembling a noose was found in a Black firefighter's locker in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. An FBI spokesman confirmed Saturday the bureau is investigating and said that the case is in its initial stages. Bloomington officials had asked the FBI to investigate. Officials say that the rope was tied into what appears to be a crude noose and was discovered at a Bloomington fire station on June 15. The discovery was reported to Fire Department leaders eight days later, on Tuesday. The fire chief says such acts that “embody hate, intimidation, and aggression will not be tolerated.” Mayor Tim Busse says he's “disgusted, angry, and embarrassed by this cowardly act.” 758

BOCA RATON, Fla. - A young girl with a big heart and a love of music recently started a charity event to raise money in the fight against Parkinson's disease.Music has been a part of 11-year-old Kasey Moore's life since she picked up a violin at the age of three."I enjoyed it more and more as I grew older," Kasey said.Now, she is practicing playing the piano every day."When I practice, some part inside of me gets alive," Kasey said.Because of the pandemic, she's been able to dedicate more time to her musical passion while at home with her family.Her father, Dr. Henry Moore, is a neurologist at the University of Miami who specializes in movement disorders like Parkinson's disease."He helps people that suffer from this terrible disease called Parkinson's, and this disease affects their brain," Kasey said. Moore has been spending more time working from his home office, which gave Kasey a chance to feed her curiosity while her dad cared for patients."She was very moved by people, how they were very disabled, and then with the medication, they were super happy and so hopeful that this disease will stop," Moore said."It really touched my heart, and I wanted to do something to help, but I wasn't sure how," Kasey said.She decided to do her part to fight Parkinson's disease by creating a fundraiser called "Parkin-Song." WPTV Kasey Moore's love of music started at an early age, and she continues to play the piano regularly. The goal is to use music to raise money and awareness on behalf of the Parkinson's Foundation."The way we always have raised her is to think first [about] others, and that will give you happiness," said Kasey's mother.Kasey's music and kind heart quickly got the attention of some big names, including Gloria Estefan. Her father said she's onto something with the healing power of music."There is music therapy even tested for Parkinson's disease patients, and it helps a lot. BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — A proposal from lawmakers in New England and California to give free access to national parks to wounded veterans is poised to become law. The Wounded Veterans Recreation Act has passed the U.S. House of Representatives after previously passing the U.S. Senate. Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Democratic California Rep. Raul Ruiz proposed the law. The lawmakers say the bill is designed to change the 2004 Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act to make veterans with a service-connected disability eligible for a free lifetime pass to U.S. national parks. 645

BALTIMORE, Maryland — With no real place to call home, 67-year-old Randolph Cockrell slept on a porch on Oakmont Avenue Tuesday evening."I didn't know whether the person was still living or what?" recalled Tanya Teagle, who saw police standing over a body in her yard across the alley the next morning, and later learned it was the homeless man known in the area as Mr. Randolph, "He was the neighborhood nuisance.  He would mess with everybody, but you just ignored him and go about your way.  Sometimes he joked with you.  Sometimes he argued with you, but he was a fun person.  He didn't really do too much to bother anyone."That is, until somehow he appears to have drawn the ire of 19-year-old Dion Dixon."The suspect, Mr. Dixon, in some way confronted him,” said Interim Baltimore City Police Commissioner Gary Tuggle, “We don't know what the motive was, but he began assaulting him, chased him and ultimately beat him with a brick."About a mile from the crime scene, friends of the victim's family say Randolph's alcoholism landed him on the street."He would drink too much... get a little belligerent, but most of the time, it was because he was drunk... not that he wanted to harm anybody. He wasn't hurtful,” said Krystal Turner.In fact, some say they had seen Randolph and Dixon together in recent days, laughing and hanging out together, which makes it all that much more disturbing that the teen could be capable of beating him to death with a brick."He walked around with a walker so he could barely walk,” said Teagle, “He's not going to do anything to hurt anybody, because he's incapable to me.  It was real sad to hear someone did that to him — somebody that's defenseless you know?"Dixon is being held at Central Booking on a series of charges including murder and assault. 1840
