HUD Secretary Ben Carson said on Friday that he was “desperately ill” during his recent bout with the coronavirus.Carson said that he took an experimental treatment like the one given to President Donald Trump last month. Carson said he was cleared to take the treatment by Trump, which Carson said “saved his life.”“I have several co-morbidities and after a brief period when I only experienced minor discomfort, the symptoms accelerated and I became desperately ill,” Carson said. “President Trump was following my condition and cleared me for the monoclonal antibody therapy that he had previously received, which I am convinced saved my life.”There are several monoclonal antibody treatments that are in the experimental phase of testing and have not been given an emergency use authorization by the FDA. It’s unclear which exact drug Carson was given.Carson was among a large number of White House staffers and contacts of Trump who have become ill with the coronavirus in the last seven weeks. In addition to Carson and Trump, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was among those in contact with Trump to be hospitalized with the coronavirus.“I am hopeful that we can stop playing politics with medicine and instead combine our efforts and goodwill for the good of all people,” Carson said. “While I am blessed to have the best medical care in the world (and I am convinced it saved my life), we must prioritize getting comparable treatments and care to everyone as soon as possible.” 1499

Hoverboards are once again the target for recalls, as the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued recalls Tuesday on seven models for potential fire hazard. According to the CPSC, the seven recalled hoverboard models have lithium-ion battery packs that can overheat, posing a risk of smoking, catching fire and/or exploding.Nearly 13,000 units are covered by Tuesday's recall. If you're looking for some fun under the sun this winter, United Airlines announced eight new destinations to popular vacation spots like Costa Rica, Belize, and Cancun.Last week, United announced they've added new flights to 19 destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America."These eight new routes highlight the continued expansion of our network and build upon our strong presence in Latin America," said Patrick Quayle, United's vice president of International Network and Alliances noted in the press release. "Our new and increased service offers travelers more opportunities to find warm-weather getaways and visit friends and family over the winter season."The new routes could begin as early as December. In a scene reminiscent to what played out in Minneapolis on Memorial Day, Oklahoma City Police released video of a May 2019 incident of a man dying while in police custody.Body worn camera video was released to the public this week.The video shows as officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, Derrick Scott told officers multiple times “I can’t breathe,” a line that George Floyd used moments before he died in Minneapolis. One of the officers responded to Scott, “I don’t care.”The video shows officers struggling to place Scott in handcuffs.Unlike in the Floyd incident, the only video available from last May’s incident was from body camera footage.The May 2019 incident began on a call of a black man carrying a gun. After police arrived, officers talked to Scott. The body cam footage then showed officers chasing a fleeing Scott.Officers caught up to him and tackled Scott. Two officers straddled Scott until a third officer arrived and told Scott to stop resisting.It took all three officers to bring Scott into custody. An officer continued to hold a knee against Scott’s leg.Scott then didn’t say anything for four minutes, which prompted officers to call for EMTs. Scott died an hour later. An official autopsy stated that Scott had a collapsed lung at the time of his death, but did not give the manner for his death.The officers were cleared of wrongdoing. 1380
