SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is suspending spring 2020 programs to Italy amid the spread of the novel coronavirus. The university said in an update to students Monday that it was calling all students studying abroad in Italy back to the United States. The decision was made due to the elevated level three travel advisories the CDC and State Department issued for the country. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students at an East San Diego school will meet Thursday to decide how to honor two classmates murdered in Tijuana this month.Christopher Alexis Gomez, a 17-year-old senior at O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto, and 18-year-old Juan Suarez-Ojeda, who graduated from the same school last year, were found shot to death in Tijuana on Nov. 25. Gomez's cousin, Katheryn Garcia, told 10News Wednesday that the two teens were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style and left in front of the Lomas Verdes housing complex.Another teen believed to be Ojeda's friend was also killed.Students at O'Farrell Charter are set to meet with school officials Thursday to decide how to honor their two classmates. According to organizers, the crosswalk is the first in California that also features a transgender flag. The crosswalk is located at the corner of Normal Street and University Avenue. On Wednesday, it announced the creation of two task forces to address student life and attack issues that may have led to Hernandez's death. About half of the 28 members are university employees and administrators, while about five are current students. Zee Munir is in San Diego to display a giant touchscreen system. It puts everything teachers need for lessons at their fingertips. Teachers can record lessons and even have an extra set of eyes. “The cameras would show whether the student is paying attention or not dozing off or not,” Munir said. The first-of-its-kind event is designed to make it easier for governments to identify and use the smart innovations, which include parking meters, license plates, and even vacuums.
