That spending is projected to account for more than 0 billion.“There is probably going to be more fraudulent use of online and online deliveries than we have seen before,” said Neil Daswani, a cyber security expert at Stanford University and the author of "Big Breaches: Cybersecurity Lessons for Everyone."He says COVID-19 related phishing scams spiked as soon as the pandemic hit. And with malware attacks, unencrypted data and third-party breaches, there will likely be more this holiday shopping season.“Cyber criminals are very well aware of the current situation and they are going to do everything they can to take advantage of it,” he said.According to the FBI, cyber crime has increased by 400% this year. But there are things consumers can do to protect themselves.Consider identity protection services. These companies can monitor many data sources, including credit files, social media and the dark web.Enable two-factor authentication for every online account you have that offers it, and call the three major credit services to freeze your credit.“I think that your credit should be regularly frozen except when you go about getting a new home mortgage or getting a car loan,” said Daswani. “You can always unfreeze it just before you do any of those activities.”Another vulnerability that Daswani says is important to pay attention to is your home router.“If you bought your home router and you just hooked it up and you didn't say change the password on it, then attackers can take advantage of those commonly used default passwords and hack into your home router,” he said. “And once they've done that, they can control anything and everything.”With increased remote working, learning and online shopping experts say a cyber pandemic could be the next catastrophic global event. (KGTV) - A brush fire erupted near homes in the Eastlake area of Chula Vista Tuesday, but no evacuations were ordered as crews doused the flames.The fire was reported shortly after 9 a.m. near the 400 block of Agua Vista Drive, according to Cal Fire officials.The blaze briefly burned vegetation several yards from some homes, but crews in the air and on the ground were able to stop the fire’s spread before it reached structures.After nearly two hours, crews contained the fire to 44 acres burned.10News learned the fire may have been accidentally caused by landscapers using equipment to clear out weeds. 635

(KGTV) — New businesses are set to call the Otay Ranch Town Center home in the coming months. Just a few months ago, the mall had more than a dozen empty storefronts and employees at the mall called it a ghost town. The new businesses moving in include Novo Brazil Brewing, Planet Fitness, and Barons Market.LONGFORM: Vacant storefronts reflect mall struggles at Otay Ranch Town CenterBrookfield Property Partners took over full ownership of the mall six weeks ago. CHULA VISTA, Calif., (KGTV) — Students at eight high schools and two middle schools in Chula Vista spent part of their day protesting the newly proposed budget for Sweetwater Union High School District. The school system is million in the hole, and they plan to lay off nearly 240 teachers and staff by May. While their parents take to the polls, hundreds of students at Eastlake High School are also raising their voices. "It's frustrating, and almost like, betrayal," Eastlake Senior, Isabella Borquez said. Borquez said she could not get behind the district board's decision to lay off nearly 240 teachers, librarians, and learning center staff, all the fix the district's million debt. "They're getting rid of people who we, the students trust and connect with," Borquez said. "And they just want to rip those people away from us."The district says the shortfall in money is not caused by mismanagement of funds. They say it is because of the decline in student enrollment and a decline in revenue.Meanwhile, at the Sweetwater Union High School District office in Downtown Chula Vista, parents too held a protest. They said the district is doing everything but follow their mantra, "Putting students first.""If you have less teachers to teach these kids, it is going to hurt them in the end," Jean Arce said. Her son is a student at Hilltop High School, who is expecting three of his current teachers to be pink-slipped this month. "This is not putting your students first. (CNS) - Authorities Thursday announced a ,000 reward for information in connection with the January stabbing death of a teenage boy during a fight in Chula Vista.Devin Griffiths, 15, was at a birthday party in the 900 block of Maria Way when a fight between two other teens broke out around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, according to Chula Vista police.At one point during the fight, Griffiths -- who was not initially involved in the argument -- jumped in to help a friend who was being attacked by several young men, police said.
