San Diego was the best in the nation in categories like bike rental facilities per capita (1st), parkland as a percentage of city area (7th), music venues per capita (17th), and percent of population with walkable park access (33rd), according to the Wallet Hub study. "Though it's not among the most affordable cities, San Diego is this year's best city for recreation as it offers plenty of choices in terms of parks, tourist attractions and public beaches,” said Jill Gonzalez, Consumer Finance Analyst. “Other things that make San Diego a good destination are its food festivals, recreational centers, cuisine and wine tours." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Lifeguards are responding after several people got stuck while hiking above Blacks Beach. The three hikers could be seen in video just below the Torrey Pines Gliderport. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In preparation for high heat expected this month, the county will close six parks.Officials close the parks every August as a safety measure for the typically high temperatures recorded at the sites.The following parks will be closed through Aug. 31:El Capitan Preserve, LakesideHellhole Canyon Preserve, Valley Center Mount Gower Preserve, Ramona Wilderness Gardens, PalaIn addition to the four parks, two more parks will continue to be closed throughout the summer until Labor Day weekend:Agua Caliente Regional Park, Anza BorregoVallecito County Park, JulianThe closures also give Department of Parks and Recreation staff time to perform much needed maintenance at the parks.There are still more than 100 other trails throughout the county to explore during the summer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It should be no surprise at this point that home prices are still on the rise in San Diego this April. A new report from Zillow shows that, year-to-year, home values in San Diego have risen more than eight percent. According to Zillow, the median home value in San Diego currently sits at just over 5,000. That change marks an increase of 8.4 percent since last April.Meanwhile, rent is also on the rise at a median of just over ,500, or an increase of 3.6 percent since last April.Click on the charts below for more information:  The high cost of housing in San Diego is in stark contrast with national home values.The median home value nationally is 5,600. If there's one thing San Diego and the rest of the nation have in common in this report it's that both saw home values increase by more than eight percent.“Home values are rising faster than we’ve seen in a very long time: The spring home shopping season has been a perfect storm of strong demand and tight supply,” said Zillow senior economist Aaron Terrazas.Nationally, the number of new homes being built is also seeing a decrease. “Sluggish new construction has exacerbated the supply situation and homes that are hitting the market, are moving very quickly once they do. Americans are also in a spending mood, boosted by recent tax cuts and rising wages.
