IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) -- Some South Bay parents said they are frustrated with their internet company after they learned of planned outages during the middle of the school day.Michael Crawford’s daughter is in her first year of high school and like many local students, is starting the year online. Crawford said the transition to virtual learning has not been easy for her. When he learned of the Cox communications outage planned for Tuesday, Crawford said it only added insult to injury. According to a notice he received on his door Friday, the planned service outage was slated to begin at 5 a.m. and last until three in the afternoon. He called Cox Communications, but did not get any answers. “I spent an hour on the phone with them. The lady seemed very sympathetic at first and then she [came] back on the phone and said there’s nothing we could do about it,” Crawford said. His neighbors received the same notice about the planned outage. Crawford questioned why the company doesn’t perform the work later in the day or on the weekends.“I pay them 0 a month for my services and that’s just my house,” Crawford said. “This is a lot of money they’re making and I don’t see why they can’t just pay some overtime for a Saturday. We’re all making sacrifices right now and even the big companies need to make the sacrifices as well.”A Cox Communications spokesperson confirmed the outage due to network upgrades. She said the time on the notice is a window and the average time that a customer is without service is two hours.“We recognize the inconvenience to our customers,” said spokesperson Ceanne Guerra. “Our crews are working really hard to complete this work as quickly as possible. This work is going to support their changing needs as they’re working from home and schooling from home.”Guerra said while they do work during off-peak hours, it is not possible to do so all the time.ABC 10News contacted the Sweetwater Union High School District regarding what students should do during any internet outages. “We ask students to work with teachers individually to ensure they receive their assignments and can work offline as best possible,” said spokesperson Manny Rubio. 2192
IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - An Imperial Beach family made a chilling discovery at home: a circular piece of glass cut perfectly from the window of a toddler's nursery while he and his mother were inside.Along Emory Street, something peculiar happened last Monday. Vanya found some needed extra gravel on his property, courtesy of some nearby construction workers."They told me the homeowner had given them permission," said Vanya. The problem? Vanya owns the home and never gave permission. Vanya believes the imposter came back two days later, while his wife and one-year-old son were home around noon.RELATED: MMA fighter takes down suspected home burglar"The way she describes it, it sounded just like glass being popped in," said Vanya.Vanya's wife raced up stairs. She thought her son had broken something, but he was asleep in the master bedroom. Meanwhile, the blinds in the nursery were closed, and she thought the sound may have come from a neighbor's home. Then on Sunday, with the blinds open, the family found it: a 5-inch-diameter perfect circle cut out from the nursery window. Inside, the window lock had been snapped off.RELATED: Couple wakes up to burglary, guns drawn "Assuming they reached in and tried to get at that," said Vanya.Vanya is grateful the intruder didn't get in. Perhaps his wife unknowingly scared the person off. Vanya remains worried about the intruder's methods. The burglar likely used a ladder to scale the 10-foot-tall roof, before pulling out a glass cutter. The roof tiles were found damaged.RELATED: Burglars steals family heirlooms, hurts family dog"Very calculated. It scared me. Intuitively, we know they've done this before and will do it again. What happens when they encounter someone's loved one? Would they run off or commit violence against them?" said Vanya.Vanya says the man who posed as the homeowner was in his white, in his 40s or 50s, balding and wearing an orange shirt. If you have any information on the case, you're urged to call the Imperial Beach Sheriff's station at 619-498-2400. 2099

I was just brutally assaulted, hit in the head, and kicked at by an angry crowd of hundreds of community members of the Boro Park protest — while yelling at me “Nazi” and “Hitler” —after Heshy Tischler recognized me and ordered the crowd to chase me down the street— Jacob Kornbluh (@jacobkornbluh) October 8, 2020 322
Hundreds of thousands of people braved wet and windy weather to attend Pope Francis' Mass at Phoenix Park in Dublin on Sunday, while thousands more gathered in the city center for protests against clerical sexual abuse amid fresh reports the Pontiff ignored allegations stretching back years."We ask forgiveness for the abuses in Ireland," said Pope Francis at the Mass, listing a litany of abuses including clerical sex crimes, a lack of compassion and action by church leaders and the separation of single mothers and children in industrial laundries."We ask forgiveness for all the times that we, as the church, did not provide survivors of any kind of abuse compassion, to look for justice, and the truth, and concrete actions, so we ask forgiveness," Pope Francis said at the Mass, which was expected to attract over 500,000 people and concludes his two-day visit to Ireland. The visit coincides with the World Meeting of Families, a gathering of the Catholic Church that was thrown into chaos last week by a Pennsylvania grand jury report detailing decades of sexual abuse and cover-ups by clerics. 1111
I have been criticized for remarks I made Sunday night about the benefits of convalescent plasma. The criticism is entirely justified. What I should have said better is that the data show a relative risk reduction not an absolute risk reduction.— Dr. Stephen M. Hahn (@SteveFDA) August 25, 2020 303
