SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) -- Some residents in Solana Beach are sharing their concerns about what appears to have been an organized illegal street racing event held over the weekend.A huge crowd of people gathered to watch several cars racing through the intersection, doing donuts and wheelies on Lomas Santa Fe Drive at Via Mil Cumbres on Saturday night at around 9:30 p.m."All of a sudden, we were completely stopped, and there are cars, and smoke and you hear tires squealing and we were trapped, so we were sitting ducks there," said Sally Fleck.Fleck said she had no idea what was happening."It looked like zombies to be quite honest, because there was so much smoke and it was so loud, I've lived here 20 some odd years and I've never seen anything like that," said Fleck.Dozens of residents posted pictures and video of the incident on social media."There were people, they were standing around watching cars do wheelies, it's lucky that no one got killed," said Fleck.The San Diego County Sheriff's Department confirmed it took several calls regarding the incident. Still, one of the reporting parties called back to say the group was gone before deputies were dispatched."I hope that it never happens again, and I'm really shocked that nobody was hurt. The amount of disregard for safety was crazy," said Fleck.Penalties for drag racers and spectators include fines and possible jail time. 1409

Several countries have started shifting to a shorter quarantine recommendation.Places like France are now telling COVID-19 patients to quarantine for seven days instead of 14. Other countries like Spain, Belgium and Germany are having people quarantine for 10 days.The idea here is that a shorter quarantine is better than no quarantine at all. Some people may find it difficult to self-isolate and because of the long period, they may not attempt to do it.“If you have a job that requires you to be there, you’ll miss two weeks’ worth of work,” said Marcus Plescia, Chief Medical Officer at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. “Even if you have a job with really good benefits, where you can take sick leave and they can accommodate that, even in that situation, it’s going to be difficult for most people.”Another idea that supports this is that many people will not need the full two weeks to develop COVID-19 symptoms. The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials says the vast majority of people are showing symptoms within four to six days.They do say that the downside to shorter quarantine is that there is the possibility they will miss some people who start showing symptoms later on.Utah is one state that has approved a shorter quarantine period under certain guidelines. The governor there has allowed students to return to school after seven days of quarantine, if they have not shown symptoms. That’s specifically for students who were wearing a mask and were at school when they were exposed.Some more states are also considering a shorter quarantine time for children in grades K-12.“They tend to be asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, so there’s not a danger for the most part, there’s not a danger to the children themselves,” said Plescia.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently looking at shorter quarantine periods for college-age students.Depending on what they find, the CDC may be able to issue new guidance on self-isolation periods to get states on the same page. 2065

SORRENTO VALLEY (KGTV): An 11-year old volunteer is proving that age doesn't matter when it comes to helping the hungry.Aiden Gruby has been volunteering at Feeding San Diego since he was six. His parents brought him as part of a family activity. He was hooked immediately."I think it’s really great. I love that feeling of helping people," he says.He loved it so much that his family started coming every week. When Aiden turned 10, Feeding San Diego asked him to become a team leader.Typically, the organization waits until people are 13 before they can take a leadership role.As a leader, Aiden helps with orientation and rules. He also directs volunteers as they sort food."I’m just so proud of him wanting to give back to our community," says mom Janessa Gruby. "There are kids who would rather spend their weekend playing sports, or playing video games, and he has asked us to come every weekend."Aiden says his favorite part of the job is "reclamation," which is the process of checking all incoming food for package integrity, expiration date and then sorting it by category.He has no plans to slow down any time soon."I think it’s really good to help people in need of food," he says. On top of that, a New Yorker article had just revealed that a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, was accusing Kavanaugh of exposing his genitals to her while they were college students.Then came Michael Avenatti.The combative lawyer, who represents Stormy Daniels and has been a ubiquitous presence on cable television, revealed a stunning new allegation: A woman, Julie Swetnick, said she had witnessed the Supreme Court nominee attending more than 10 house parties between 1981 and 1983 where Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, were present. At some of those parties, she alleged, Kavanaugh was "fondling and grabbing girls without their consent" and, along with others, spiking drinks to force girls to lose their inhibitions.She also alleged that at some parties, boys lined up by a bedroom to "gang-rape" incapacitated girls and claimed those in the lineup included Kavanaugh and Judge.
