COCKEYSVILLE, Md — A unique program that partners retired thoroughbred racehorses with veterans to help combat PTSD is now adapting to help Maryland National Guardsmen who are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic."It's been rewarding every day. Just to see the smiles on the faces," employee Steve Mooney said.Mooney first got involved with Saratoga WarHorse 5 years ago, participating after he got back from a deployment in Afghanistan and suffered from PTSD and insomnia."It has help me cope with things a little different. Help me look at stress a little different," Mooney said.After going through the program in another state, Mooney helped start a branch at the Baltimore County Center for Agriculture in 2018."How many marriages did we save? How many people came off substance abuse?" Mooney said.He said the program changes lives with the connection veterans work to earn from horses."They're running around the pen trying to avoid you, and then as you interact with the horse, it comes to a point that the horse is gonna say, 'alright, I wanna be your friend now,'" Mooney said."You can see that moment when that horse and that vet decide to become friends, and there's a kind of like a handshake, and that's probably the coolest part of this whole program for me," volunteer Marc Junkerman said.An Army vet, Junkerman also decided to volunteer with the program after participating himself and feeling the change."I had to be mindful that whatever I was bringing into that ring had to positive. I had to put all the negativity down because otherwise, you're not going to get that connection with the horse. So, what's really cool is if you put that negativity down and then go in there and connect, you usually bring something better out," Junkerman said. "The flip side is, why would you then pick up something you put down? We will clean it up with the other stuff at the end of the day."Now, the program is adapting to help the thousands of Maryland National Guardsmen who dropped what they were doing to help the state through this pandemic."This is a completely different thing that none of us have dealt with in the past," Tech Sgt. CLEVELAND — An American Airlines flight headed to Cleveland Saturday afternoon had a scary setback after the windshield cracked mid-flight, according to American Airlines.The flight, which departed from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago around 1:30 p.m., was in the air for approximately 30 minutes before a mechanical issue with the windscreen occurred and forced the flight to return to the airport, American Airlines said.American Airlines said that the plane landed safely and taxied to the gate without incident, and after changing aircraft, re-departed for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.No injuries to any customers or crew members were reported, American Airlines said.This story was originally published by Camryn Justice on WEWS in Cleveland. 775

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The City of Cleveland is aware of 11 COVID-19 cases “stemming from pre-debate planning and set-up,” according to a news release from the city sent Friday afternoon.The city said the majority of cases occurred among out-of-state residents, and at this time, no Cleveland residents have contracted the virus as a result of the debate.The City of Cleveland is working with the Ohio Department of Health, the CDC, and the Cleveland Clinic to contact, interview, issue isolation orders and provide guidance to the individuals who tested positive as part of the debate, the release states.The city’s current contact tracing process involves interviewing the person who tested positive, asking who they live with, who they care for, what work they do, and if they have attended any mass gatherings.Those whose cases stem from the debate will also be asked who they are employed by, who they were in contact with at the debate, how they got to the debate, how long they were there, and if they did any traveling or attended any other mass gatherings recently.Cleveland officials advise anyone who has come in contact with someone who tested positive to self-quarantine. Anyone who was in attendance at the debate who has concerns or symptoms should contact their healthcare provider.“With this event, we know a large number of those in attendance live in another state,” the city stated. “That is why our partnerships with ODH and the CDC are vital.”On Friday, 92 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Cuyahoga County, the largest number in nearly a month. Ohio as a whole saw a spike in coronavirus cases Friday, with 1,495 new cases reported, the highest number since July 31.Cleveland Clinic, which was responsible for the health and safety protocols during the debate, released this statement:“Our thoughts are with the President, First Lady, and all of our guests. As health advisor to the Commission on Presidential Debates and the host site, we had requirements to maintain a safe environment that aligns with CDC guidelines- including social distancing, hand sanitizing, temperature checks, and masking. Most importantly, everyone permitted inside the debate hall tested negative for COVID-19 prior to entry. CLEARWATER, Fla. — The State Attorney's Office for Florida's Sixth Judicial District has reviewed the controversial 'stand your ground' case into the death of Markeis McGlockton and has decided to file a manslaughter charge.An arrest warrant was issued on Monday morning and Pinellas County detectives arrested Michael Drejka. He is being booked into the Pinellas County Jail and bond has been set at 0,000.McGlockton, 28, was shot and killed on July 19 by Drejka, 47, outside of a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida. COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Brody Allen, the 2-year-old from Ohio who got an early Christmas this year because doctors said he wouldn't live until December, has died.Brody's father, Todd Allen, posted the news on Facebook Friday."This morning at 6 a.m. Brody passed quietly, and peacefully in the arms of his mother Shilo," he wrote. "He did not suffer. He was surrounded by his family and I have no doubt many angels. While our sadness is immeasurable and we will miss his smiling beautiful soul, we are also comforted in knowing that today our son has touched the face of God."Hundreds of people lined the streets of Colerain Township last month to put on a Christmas parade for Brody after doctors said he wouldn't live long enough to celebrate on the holiday.Neighbors decorated their homes, Brody rode a float in the parade and he got to celebrate at a party with Santa Claus and fireworks."He was so happy, Brody’s sister, McKenzie Allen, said that day. "It was amazing. Not just for him, but for everybody."Word of the early Christmas celebration for Brody spread far once it hit social media. Todd Allen previously said the family was receiving Christmas cards from all over the world."The letters are a blessing to us all. It's become a significant part of our day.
