SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The region's high housing prices can be daunting, but there is a way to get the best bang for your buck when it comes to homebuying.San Diego realtor Mark Powell says the way to do that is by viewing properties by price per square foot. That way, even if the overall price is high, your dollars buy more house if the price per square foot is low. "First decide what location you want, and then go for the biggest bang for the buck there," Powell said. Powell said the price per square foot in San Diego ranges from 9 to more than ,000. It did have air conditioning, but its bathroom and kitchen fixtures had aged. Powell says those upgrade costs are minimal."You have to make sure the bones are good," Powell said, noting nothing is perfect and homebuyers will always identify something they consider lacking in a home.Finally, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo in Mission Valley was on the market for 5,000, or 6 per square foot. Powell said while its price per square foot was higher than the other two, he noted its overall price tag was within reach for some single earners."The downside is there is limited parking," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - To protect his best friend, a Sabre Springs man found himself in a brawl with a bobcat. Bobby Abrams, a 78-year-old Vietnam veteran, said it happened Saturday morning while walking his dog Sammy. The Navy veteran is in tiptop shape; he does hundreds of push-ups a day and goes on walks up to 14 miles. "Oh yea, he was snarling, arggggg, like that!" remembers Abrams. RELATED: Woman spots bobcat lurking through backyard in 4S RanchAbrams was walking on Ted Williams Parkway when he says the bobcat appeared and quickly attacked Sammy, biting him in the neck. Abrams quickly pulled the bobcat off, grabbing it by the throat and slinging it back and forth. He ultimately broke the animal's neck, killing it. Abrams was left with puncture wounds on his hands. He says he had to defend his dog and would do it again if he had to. He says their close relationship began when Abrams rescued Sammy from an abusive situation; he says they both have PTSD. "I love that dog as much as I love my momma. I love that dog, the Navy, and my momma!" said Abrams. A spokesperson says bobcats are not unusual in that area but are usually nocturnal. They speculate the animal might not have gone out that night due to bad weather and instead went out during the day.If you find yourself in a similar situation, wildlife officials say stand your ground and try to pull the animal away. They recommend avoiding going out at night when coyotes and bobcats are out. It's also advised to make loud noises and throw objects, like a rock, at the animal to try and scare it off. Officials say bobcats are typically fearful of humans. 1885

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego History Center is commemorating a landmark moment in the gay rights movement: the Stonewall uprising in New York. Fifty years ago, a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village sparked a violent confrontation between law enforcement and gay rights activists. Although the riots happened on the other side of the country, the West Coast had a role in fighting for change. “If nothing else, it is a marker in historical time with a clearly defined before and after,” said Dr. Lillian Faderman. Faderman said Stonewall was “not the first time that gay people fought back.” She curated an exhibit called LGBTQ San Diego: Stories and Struggles, tracing the local groups that advocated for LGBTQ rights. The Mattachine Society and Daughters of Bilitis both advocated for gay rights in the 1950s and 60s. Faderman’s exhibit highlights their work, and that of individuals who called for change. The exhibit will be open at the San Diego History Center until next year. 1022
