For his part, Renzi said Italy highly appreciates China's development achievements, and intends to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative,

"Through the joint efforts of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including the Philippines, the South China Sea situation had been easing off and is back on the right track of seeking solution and managing differences through negotiations by parties directly involved in the issue," said spokesperson Lu Kang at a regular briefing.

They agreed to support development of industrial clusters in ports, encourage cooperation in infrastructure development, such as construction of railways and roads, logistics and warehousing facilities at sea and inland ports and industrial parks, and encourage closer cooperation in relevant financing.

It noted the country would increase financial input to enhance workplace risk control and prevent work-related illness, while improving management and auditing to make sure the money would be wisely spent.

The event will be attended by top officials including Salaheddine Mezouar, Xie Zhenhua, China's special representative on climate change affairs, and other top officials from the UN agencies and other developing countries.
