SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a shortened and fanless baseball season underway, there is still confusion and legal challenges over refunds for tickets.Sydnie Gallegos lives in San Diego, but she is a loyal Dodgers fan. Every year, she and moe than a dozen of her family members see a game live at Dodgers Stadium. “We do it once a year, every year, for the last six years,” Gallegos said.Gallegos, like so many others, were left in the dark wondering what to do about tickets they bought.Her family bought tickets to a July 4th game back in March. “It was for 15 of me and my family members. That’s over ,400 just in tickets,” Gallegos said.Although Major League Baseball announced refund policies in April, Gallegos said they didn’t hear anything until July. They received an email from the Dodgers, offering ticketholders “with an account credit for all 2020 tickets and parking (plus applicable fees).”The team also added a 10 percent bonus credit, which could be applied for the 2021 season. A spokesperson for the Padres also said they’re also offering fans a refund or use their credit towards the 2021 season.Despite refunds now being issued to fans, a class action lawsuit over the issue continues. Several ticket buyers sued Major League Baseball, the teams, as well as StubHub, Ticketmaster, and Live Nation. The attorneys for the plaintiffs said they are still moving forward with the lawsuit because they “continue to pursue their claims so that each ticket purchaser for the MLB 2020 season will receive a full refund as soon as possible.”“As the season will have no fan attendance, Defendants have no reason to keep any of the ticket purchasers’ money,” attorney Blake Yagman wrote to Team 10. 1712

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- When a car breaks down or a housing voucher falls just short, San Diegans can slip through existing safety nets and into homelessness. Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and members of the Regional Task Force on the Homeless announced a proposal Monday to address those shortfalls in traditional housing assistance through what’s called a “flex pool.”Based on models used in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, the Flexible Funds for Housing Program would combine government and private funds, with fewer restrictions on who qualifies and how the money is used. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - While bars are set to open Friday, it's not going to look much different from restaurants right now, according to those in the industry.10News spoke with Nathan Colonero, the Director of Operations at Sandbox Pizza and The Tipsy Crow, and he said the only change will be businesses without a food license will be able to reopen and bars that serve food don't have to enforce a food order on each tab.Customers will be required to wear masks when they walk in and may only remove their mask once seated.Tables must be spaced at least six feet apart or partitioned.Colonero is hopeful the easing restrictions will continue, "who knows? Maybe three more weeks and no spike and we get a little more back to, the biggest thing for us is to get back to, if people are allowed to be in the venue, maybe at a lower capacity, just not seated."Many San Diego bars with food licenses have been open for the past three weeks and some are feeling the squeeze of the new restrictions."The 0 unemployment is killing businesses right now to get staff back," Colonero said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two separate studies show flu and pneumonia vaccines may reduce your risks of developing Alzheimer’s disease in the future.The findings were presented on Monday during the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference, which was held virtually for the first time because of COVID-19. The conference was supposed to be in Amsterdam this year.In one study, researchers found that getting a flu shot showed a 17% reduction in the development of the disease. The earlier people got the vaccine, the better the protection against the disease.“Each year, successively, if they did get another flu shot they got more reduction, so almost up to a 30 to 35% of a reduction of the development of dementia, just by getting the flu shot,” said Katie Croskrey, the executive director of the San Diego/Imperial chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.In a separate study, researchers found similar reductions for developing dementia for those that received a pneumonia vaccine between the ages of 65 and 75.“You had a reduction of almost 40% of not developing dementia,” said Croskrey.Croskrey said these studies are just the starting point for more research to find out how the vaccines are correlated to reducing the risks of the disease. More research is also needed to determine if just getting the vaccines alone reduce the risk, or if it has to do more with lifestyle changes.Also announced on Monday, research that shows that individuals with dementia are six times more likely to die after infections than those that do not have dementia.The virtual international conference continues on Tuesday, where researchers are expected to discuss blood biomarkers that could identify a person with a potential for developing Alzheimer’s up to 20 years before any symptoms appear.
